Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Taxonomy Lab Sorter to support environmental survey activities in a laboratory setting. The Taxonomy Lab Sorter will assist with sorting and identifying research specimens using a microscope and will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and following established laboratory procedures.

This is a part-time position well suited for someone with an interest in environmental science, biology, taxonomy, or laboratory research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sort and organize environmental research specimens and samples according to established procedures.
  • Examine specimens using a microscope and accurately distinguish and categorize materials.
  • Record observations and sample information accurately.
  • Maintain organized work areas and handle specimens appropriately.
  • Follow laboratory protocols, safety procedures, and quality-control standards.
  • Perform repetitive sorting and microscope-based tasks with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Assist with other laboratory and research-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Some experience with environmental research.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately on repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established laboratory procedures.
  • No professional license or certification required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods.
  • Ability to work with a microscope for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and visual tasks while maintaining accuracy.

Work Environment

The Taxonomy Lab Sorter works primarily in a laboratory environment and should be comfortable performing detailed, repetitive work that requires concentration, patience, and consistent accuracy.
