Job Description Summary

The Lab Technician Intern will support our engineering team in the development, testing, and validation of next generation clean energy hardware products. This is a hands-on opportunity for a student to gain real-world experience working alongside experienced engineers in a fast-paced lab environment, contributing to the clean energy products that power homes around the world.

Job Description

Generac is hiring a Lab Technician Intern to join our engineering team in Santa Monica, CA. In this role, you will support hardware testing, prototyping, and validation activities for our clean energy product line. You will work directly with engineers in the lab, getting hands-on experience with real products in development. If you enjoy working with your hands, troubleshooting hardware, and seeing how clean energy products come to life, we encourage you to apply.

This internship is 5 days a week on-site in Santa Monica, CA.

What You Will Do

  • Set up, operate, and maintain test equipment in the lab including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and electronic loads.

  • Build cables, harnesses, and test fixtures to support hardware testing and validation.

  • Conduct hardware tests on prototypes under engineer supervision.

  • Document test setups, procedures, and results with accuracy and consistency.

  • Support engineers in troubleshooting hardware issues and identifying root cause.

  • Maintain lab organization, equipment calibration logs, and inventory.

  • Follow lab safety protocols, including proper handling of electrical equipment and high-voltage systems.

  • Take ownership of a defined project that delivers tangible value to the team by the end of the internship.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • Coursework or hands-on experience with basic electronics, circuits, or electrical systems.

  • Familiarity with common lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies).

  • Comfortable with hand tools, soldering, and assembling electrical components.

  • Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and procedures in a lab environment.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project experience working with physical electronics or power systems (academic, personal, or prior internship).

  • Exposure to power electronics or clean energy technology.

  • Familiarity with cable harness assembly, fixture building, or PCB rework.

  • Interest in clean energy technology and renewable energy systems.

  • Prior internship, co-op, or hands-on lab experience in a technical environment.

Office Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
