The Teacher Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing serves as an instructional leader committed to providing high-quality, standards-based instruction that prepares students for success in the automotive collision repair and refinishing career pathway. The teacher delivers engaging, rigorous, and industry-relevant instruction that develops students' technical knowledge, hands-on skills, and professional competencies in vehicle damage analysis, structural and non-structural repair, welding, refinishing, paint preparation and application, estimating, and the use of industry-standard tools, equipment, and software. The teacher maintains a safe, organized, and industry-standard laboratory environment while emphasizing OSHA regulations, environmental compliance, workplace safety, and professional practices. Through ongoing assessment, data analysis, and differentiated instruction, the teacher establishes high expectations for academic achievement, technical proficiency, and employability skills, ensuring students are prepared to earn industry-recognized credentials and pursue postsecondary education, apprenticeships, military service, and careers in the automotive collision repair industry. The teacher also collaborates with families, colleagues, business and industry partners, and community organizations to expand work-based learning opportunities, strengthen career readiness, and support the district's mission of preparing all students for lifelong success.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
2. Must possess a valid New Jersey Department of Education Career and Technical Education Certificate for Automotive Technology Endorsement Code 4182 .
3. Minimum of 5 years experience in the field of collision repair and refinishing technology.
4. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred.
5. Possess or willing to obtain Cooperative Education Coordinator-Hazardous Occupations endorsement
6. Must possess a valid driver's license as well as current insurance and a vehicle with valid registration.
7. Required criminal history background check, physical, and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

SUPERVISES: N/A

JOB GOAL: The teacher shall teach the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and Industry Based Standards in accordance with the curriculum adopted by the Board of Education with the end goal to allow students to become industry based certified (ASE) upon completion of the program.

PERFORMANCE

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To implement by instruction and action the district's educational goals and objectives by outlining exactly what the students are expected to learn.
2. To meet and instruct classes as assigned by selecting a variety of relevant materials, resources, and technologies that support instructional goals and promote student learning.
3. To prepare for assignments by consistently displaying a thorough understanding of content specific instructional practices.
4. To utilize lesson plans and instructional materials through the use of effective questioning strategies.  Encourage students to engage in active reasoning and lead them in developing questions and answers on their own.
5. To encourage students to set and maintain standards of behavior needed to achieve success in the classroom.
6. To maintain a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom by clearly defining student and teacher expectations and roles in the classroom.
7. To provide for continuous evaluation of student progress consistent with district established goals and policies.
8. To maintain student records and other pertinent data as determined by the district.
9. To facilitate students' progress and growth toward stated objectives of instruction within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
10. To conform to all OSHA rules and regulations regarding shop safety.
11. To establish cooperative relations and effective communications with staff and parents.
12. To uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
13. To participate in faculty meetings and curriculum development programs as required and approved by the district.
14. To participate in professional development and other professional growth activities.
15. To make a reasonable effort to maintain the well-being of students and the security of school property.
16. To provide sponsorship of student activities approved by the district as assigned.
17. Perform other duties which may be within the scope of his/her employment and certification as assigned by the principal.
18. Meet all CTE program requirements such as hosting 2 advisory meetings per year, inputting student CTE data into Genesis, developing community partnerships for internships/apprenticeships.

• Frequent interruptions from calls, walk-ins and urgent requests.
• Possible exposure to cleaning agents, instructional materials, and equipment-related chemicals.

Starting Minimum Salary: $61,857.00

Starting Maximum Salary: $96,457.00

Residency Requirement

Under New Jersey's "New Jersey First Act" (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7), all employees of New Jersey public school districts must maintain bona fide New Jersey residency as a condition of employment. Candidates must already reside in New Jersey or establish residency within the required timeframe after hire. Current employees who were hired on or before September 1, 2011areexemptfrom this requirement and may continue to reside outside the state. In limited circumstances, applicants may request a residency waiver through the state's Employee Residency Review Committee if they can demonstrate critical need or hardship; approval is not guaranteed.
