Adjunct Instructor - College Readiness/Basic Skills
Job Description
The instructor will teach low-level adult basic education up to adult high school/ high school
equivalency material, and/or English Language Acquisition.

Essential Duties Summary
Instructor's duties include:
  1. Plan, create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to student learning.
  2. Teach essential academic and life skills, such as reading, writing, math, problem- solving, and time management, to prepare students for college or the workforce.
  3. Develop and deliver tailored lessons that address the unique needs, abilities, and goals of each student, using accommodations as necessary.
  4. Encourage the development of critical thinking skills through appropriate classroom exercises and assignments.
  5. Provide instruction in communication, teamwork, and self-advocacy to foster confidence and independence in different settings.
  6. Track and document student progress.
  7. Communicate with students, supervisor, and WCC faculty/staff through the technological framework, such as email, provided by WCC.
  8. Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Schedule: Monday-Thursday
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum - Bachelor's degree.
  • Must be willing to obtain NC CORE credentials or have NRS approved credentials.

Physical Demands
Work is primarily performed in an academic (an office or classroom) setting with appropriate climate controls. Travel, early morning, evening, and weekend work may be required.

Essential functions: Positions require lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate, ability to sit and/or stand for long periods, ability to move between classrooms, buildings, and campuses, ability to express or exchange ideas, and good eye/hand dexterity. Exposure to bodily fluids and hazardous chemicals.
Medium work: Requires ability to operate a variety of types of office, instructional, and dental equipment. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work. Requires the ability to walk, stand, stoop, reach, crouch, knees, reach, or grasp for an extended period of time.
Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are important.
