Min Training/Experience Requirements

The Associate Dean for the College of Optometric Medicine must have an earned doctorate in the field of optometry or a related discipline. The successful candidate must have five years administrative experience in higher education. S/he must be committed to the principles of shared governance. Candidates should have experience with and commitment to ACOE accreditation; ability to work in a collaborative and collegial fashion with various internal and external constituencies; and demonstrated interest in academic program building and interprofessional studies.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Associate Dean, College of Optometric Medicine is part of the leadership team for the college and provides support to the Dean in the operation of college's academic affairs. The Associate Dean for College of Optometric Medicine participates in the College of Optometric Medicine's strategic planning, policy formation, and key decision-making processes.

Job Description

The Associate Dean, College of Optometric Medicine is responsible for various issues and activities that relate to and are supportive of the college's teaching and research endeavors, the coordination of the curriculum and class schedules, supporting the recruitment and hiring and support of high quality faculty, attending to the daily business of the college, representing the college, and the dean's office on various campus wide committees, and such duties as the dean considers appropriate.

Under the direction of the Dean of the College of Optometric Medicine, the Associate Dean, College of Optometric Medicine will provide leadership and administrative support and work collaboratively within the school and across UNCP's colleges/schools. This is a full-time, 12- month position. The Associate Dean will report to the Dean, College of Optometric Medicine.
