Models may pose clothed or nude, holding various positions for different lengths of time. This job requires patience, the ability to stay still, and comfort with being observed for artistic purposes. Art models play a crucial role in helping students develop their observational and technical skills.

What can I expect during a typical modeling session for a college art class?

In a typical college art class session, you will be asked to pose—sometimes clothed, sometimes in costume or draped—for periods ranging from a few minutes to 20 minutes at a time, with short breaks in between. You may be required to hold quick gesture poses as well as sustained poses for figure drawing, painting, or sculpture courses, all while maintaining stillness to give students consistency. These qualities are essential to ensure you support instructors and students effectively while maintaining a respectful and productive classroom environment.
