    Job description

    About OnPay
OnPay is a fast-growing software company headquartered in Atlanta, offering a modern cloud-based payroll, HR, and benefits solution for small to midsize businesses. We're currently seeking talented and curious individuals to join our team. We want to hear from you if you are interested in joining an exciting and fast-growing company!
    Learn more at OnPay.com
If you're someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment and loves helping businesses succeed, this is the perfect time to join a high-growth SaaS company that's redefining what payroll software should be.
    The Role
The Tax Resolution Analyst (Payroll Adjustments) is responsible for analyzing, reconciling, and correcting complex payroll tax discrepancies and multi-jurisdictional filings. This role focuses on processing payroll adjustments (W-2c, 941-X, state/local amended returns) and executing root-cause corrections to ensure federal, state, and local compliance for client payrolls. This role requires deep technical knowledge of payroll tax laws and strong analytical skills to audit historical payroll records to reconcile payroll tax accounts.
    What You'll Do
    • Recalculate historical taxable wages, tax withholdings, deductions, and employer contributions to ensure proper compliance and accurate adjustment calculations.
    • Prepare and process complex payroll adjustments and tax corrections in preparation for submitting amended returns (e.g., Form 941-X, W-2c, state/local amended forms).
    • Reconcile gross-to-net payroll data against quarterly and annual tax filings to pinpoint discrepancies.
    • Perform root-cause analysis on tax errors to prevent recurring agency notices and compliance issues.
    • Maintain detailed documentation and audit trails for all payroll registers and tax correspondence.
    • Identify systemic payroll software configuration issues, setup errors, or wage calculations leading to tax discrepancies, and partner with internal technical teams to fix them.
    • Partner with internal client success and payroll operations teams to communicate tax impact, collection adjustments, and corrective timelines clearly.
    • Stay current on changing federal, state, and local payroll tax legislation affecting amendments and filing guidelines.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    What You Bring
    • 3-5 years of dedicated experience in payroll tax, payroll auditing, or payroll tax resolution, with demonstrated expertise in multi-state tax adjustments or amendments.
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
    • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred.
    • Exceptional attention to detail, strong problem-solving capabilities, and clear written/verbal communication skills.

    Why OnPay?
    • Momentum that matters: We're backed by over $100MM in new funding and scaling rapidly.
    • Market-leading product: OnPay consistently ranks among the highest-rated payroll solutions, earning top marks for usability, customer satisfaction, and support.
    • Remote flexibility: Work from anywhere in the U.S., or join our collaborative HQ team in Atlanta's Ponce City Market if you reside in the Atlanta metro area.
    • Competitive compensation: Base salary + bonus + stock options = real upside for high performers.
    • Comprehensive benefits: 4 weeks PTO + paid holidays, Medical/Dental/Vision, Short- & Long-Term Disability, Life Insurance, Fertility Benefits, Parental Leave, and a 401(k) with company match.
    • Growth culture: Join a team with deep employee benefits experience, payroll expertise, market momentum, and a genuine commitment to helping employees grow their careers.
    • Client-first ethos: OnPay is built on a culture of transparency and service - from our transparent pricing to our commitment to making small business simpler.

    Location & Compensation
    • Remote (U.S.) | Atlanta HQ Optional
    • Compensation includes a pay range of $25.00 to $30.00. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
