What is a coliseum?

A coliseum is a large public structure designed for sports, entertainment, and other events, typically featuring a central arena surrounded by tiers of seats for spectators. The most famous example is the Roman Colosseum, an ancient amphitheater in Rome used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles. Today, the term can also refer to modern stadiums or arenas that host concerts, sporting events, and exhibitions. These venues are designed to accommodate large crowds and provide good visibility from all seating areas.
