The Department of Pathology is currently seeking a full-time Research Assistant 3 to work on-site in Miami. The Research Assistant 3 explores innovations to research and strives to improve implementation and family outcomes. The Research Assistant 3 ensures compliance with university policies, rules, and regulations to meet federal, state, and local standards pertaining to safety and ethics.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plans and implements research experiments, according to research protocols, to assure high quality scientific results in support of applicable project goals.

  • Participates in assessing feasibility of implementing innovations.

  • Assesses data trends and develops reports and presentations.

  • Supports the initiation of new research by reviewing and synthesizing literature.

  • Oversees inventory of supplies and equipment and places orders in a timely fashion.

  • Provides assistance in the preparation of scientific papers, reports, and manuscripts.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

Department Specific Functions

  • The Research Assistant will provide support to the Senior Histotechnologist (Lab Supervisor) of the Pathology Research Resources Histology Laboratory which is a research core laboratory hosted by the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. This will include laboratory and clerical support.

  • 40% Maintain and operate various pieces of laboratory equipment including fume hood, processor, slide stainer, slide cover slipper, and embedding station.

  • 30% Prepare solutions and work with supervisor in performing various histology techniques including special stains.

  • 20% Accessions and registers histology specimens; reconcile labelling; organized completed work and notify client that is ready for pickup.

  • 10% Assist in client billing, scanning of requisitions, organization of purchasing paperwork, answer phone and replies to other client inquiries.

Department Specific Qualifications

Experience:

Prior histology experience preferred.
