What is the difference between Coffee Import vs Coffee Buyer?

AspectCoffee ImportCoffee Buyer
CredentialsImport/export licenses, industry knowledgeMarket analysis, negotiation skills
Work EnvironmentLogistics, shipping, international tradeRetail, wholesale, procurement
Employer & IndustryImport/export companies, coffee producersRoasters, coffee shops, distributors

While both roles involve the coffee supply chain, Coffee Import focuses on the logistics and legal aspects of bringing coffee into a country, requiring knowledge of international trade and import regulations. Coffee Buyers, on the other hand, focus on selecting and purchasing coffee beans for companies, emphasizing market trends and negotiation skills. Understanding these differences helps clarify career paths and job expectations within the coffee industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Coffee Import Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Coffee Import Specialist, you need strong knowledge of international trade regulations, supply chain logistics, and coffee quality assessment, often supported by a background in business, agriculture, or international trade. Familiarity with import/export documentation systems, quality certification platforms (like Q Grader), and relevant ERP or inventory management software is typically required. Excellent negotiation, relationship-building, and attention to detail are essential soft skills for managing supplier partnerships and ensuring product quality. These skills and qualities ensure efficient, compliant, and high-quality coffee imports that support business growth and customer satisfaction.

What are coffee importers?

Coffee importers are professionals or companies that specialize in purchasing green coffee beans from coffee-producing countries and bringing them into another country for roasting and sale. They act as intermediaries between coffee farmers or exporters and roasters or retailers, ensuring the quality, legality, and logistics of the coffee trade. Coffee importers must navigate complex international regulations, manage supply chain logistics, and often work to build relationships with producers to ensure ethical and sustainable sourcing.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in coffee import, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in coffee import often encounter challenges such as fluctuating international regulations, unpredictable shipping delays, and maintaining quality standards across different suppliers. Staying informed about trade laws and building strong relationships with reliable exporters can help mitigate these risks. Additionally, effective communication with logistics partners and regular quality checks are essential to ensure smooth operations and consistent product quality. Proactive problem-solving and adaptability are key traits for success in this dynamic environment.

KEVIDKO is a rapidly growing designer, manufacturer, importer, and distributor servicing restaurants, cafes, bakeries, hospitality groups, grocery stores, and foodservice operators throughout Southern California
We provide everything from custom printed cups, bags, boxes, containers, lids, straws, and packaging to janitorial supplies, cleaning chemicals, operational supplies, office products, specialty beverages, and countless other products businesses need to operate successfully.
Unlike most suppliers, we don't simply resell products from a catalog.
Our team works directly with manufacturing partners around the world, develops custom products, manages inventory locally, and operates our own Southern California distribution network. This allows us to solve problems, create products, and deliver solutions that many competitors simply cannot.
Whether a client needs a custom printed coffee cup, a better takeout container, a chemical program, a specialty imported product, or a complete packaging solution, our goal is to become a trusted long-term resource for their business.
We are looking for a relationship-driven sales professional who can acquire new clients, manage existing accounts, and help businesses operate more effectively through better products, service, expertise, and solutions.
This is a full-cycle sales role. You will be responsible for prospecting, acquiring clients, managing relationships, growing accounts, and serving as a trusted resource for your portfolio.
Success at KEVIDKO is not measured by the number of doors you knock on or the discounts you give away. Success comes from understanding client needs, providing expertise, solving problems, building trust, and becoming a valuable long-term resource. The sales and growth naturally follow.
Our sales team is supported by substantial local inventory, internal support staff, proprietary sourcing tools, custom product development capabilities, global supply chain resources, and one of the most responsive service models in the industry.
Responsibilities
  • Acquire new clients
  • Manage assigned accounts
  • Build long-term relationships
  • Identify opportunities for account growth
  • Coordinate solutions for client needs
  • Work closely with operations and customer service teams
  • Maintain an organized pipeline and follow-up process

Primary Market: This position is focused on developing long-term relationships with restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, hotels, hospitality businesses, and foodservice operators throughout Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Irvine, Tustin, Laguna Beach, Corona del Mar, Newport Coast, and surrounding Orange County communities. While you'll have the opportunity to pursue business throughout Southern California, your primary objective is to establish KEVIDKO as the preferred supplier within this community.
Qualifications
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Self-motivated and accountable
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willingness to travel throughout Southern California

Foodservice, hospitality, packaging, distribution, restaurant, or B2B sales experience is preferred but not required.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive base salary
  • Vehicle allowance
  • Uncapped recurring commission structure
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Ongoing training, coaching, and professional development
  • Significant long-term growth opportunities

We reward sales professionals who acquire new business, provide exceptional service, build strong client relationships, and consistently grow their portfolio over time.
There is no waiting for annual raises. Every client relationship you acquire, service, and grow creates another opportunity to increase your income and build a meaningful long-term career
This is not a transactional sales environment focused on one-time orders. We are looking for professionals who want to build a long-term career, become trusted advisors to their clients, and grow alongside a rapidly expanding organization.
Top performers will have the opportunity to significantly increase their earnings as their client portfolio grows and develops.
Flexible work from home options available.
Compensation: $78,000.00 - $400,000.00 per year
PARTNERS YOU CAN COUNT ON.
