Job Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced HIM Coding & CDI Manager to join their team on a contract-to-hire basis. This leadership role will oversee inpatient and outpatient coding, clinical documentation integrity (CDI), ROI, and provider deficiency operations. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative HIM leader who can develop teams, improve processes, and provide guidance across coding and CDI functions.

This opportunity is with a repeat Addison Group client that currently utilizes Addison Group for multiple HIM resources. The current leader is retiring in July, and they are seeking someone who can transition smoothly, train alongside the current manager, and continue building the partnership moving forward.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations for:
    • Inpatient and outpatient coding teams
    • Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI)
    • Release of Information (ROI)
    • Provider deficiency tracking
  • Manage and support:
    • 15 coders and 1 coding coordinator
    • 3 CDI nurses and 1 CDI coordinator
    • 4 ROI/provider deficiency team members
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to HIM staff.
  • Review and support coding and CDI workflows using:
    • EPIC
    • Solventum
    • 3M 360
  • Oversee CDI review processes, including:
    • Documentation review
    • Provider queries
    • Coding guideline support
    • DRG mismatch resolution
  • Support review of high-dollar and complex cases, including:
    • Joint replacements
    • Spine procedures
    • Neurology
    • Orthopedics
    • Heart and vascular cases
    • Oncology
    • Kidney services
    • Gastroenterology
    • Stroke cases
    • Podiatry
    • Infusions
    • Surgical procedures
  • Review inpatient and outpatient coding quality and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with CDI nurses through EPIC baskets to ensure transparent communication.
  • Provide coding guideline support when discrepancies occur between CDI and coding teams.
  • Partner with leadership to improve HIM processes and team performance.

Qualifications:

  • Must have an active AAPC or AHIMA certification
  • Strong HIM leadership experience required.
  • Experience overseeing coding teams preferred.
  • Experience with either inpatient or outpatient coding leadership accepted; candidates do not need both.
  • Minimum 5+ years of HIM experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree requirement.
  • Experience with CDI operations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of coding guidelines and compliance standards.
