Job description

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Before and After School Lead Teacher to join our team.
The YMCA focuses on empowering people in all forms, by improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across our neighborhoods.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
As the Before and After Lead Teacher, you will support the YMCA Child Care Program year-round to serve our community with a variety of activity options to explore and develop interests and talents of the youth with a focus on safety, health, social growth, and academic enhancement for children to have fun and thrive in our care.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct parent conferences, and maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
  • Work closely with the program director and branch leadership team to advocate for team needs and collaborate on partnership opportunities when appropriate.
  • Provide feedback and deliver on the onboarding of new site staff; implement training guidelines, including shadowing and coaching new staff during the program.
  • Ensure the program maintains conformance with all YMCA policies and procedures and the Washington Administrative Code.
  • Promote a positive environment that fosters fun, safety, and our YMCA values which includes implementation of proximity praise, specific action compliments, and our 8 Points of Leadership.
  • Attend and participates in family nights and program activities.

Are you a good fit?
  • You enjoy working with school-aged children and have previous experience working with children in a childcare setting.
  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You have two years of expierience as a teacher of children in any age group enrolled in any Early Learning program.
  • Must have an ECE state certificate. If do not have a state certificate or equivalant, must have 45 credits in childhood education and core compentancies.
  • You are committed to completing STARS training within 60 days of hire.
  • You are certified in Infant-Child CPR and Basic First Aid, and have a valid Food Handlers Permit or are willing to obtain certification within 30 days of hire (the YMCA will assist in this process).
  • You are willing to obtain a Food Handlers permit (cost reimbursable), complete a pre-employment TB skin test with negative results (YMCA will assist in this process. and proof of MMR vaccination (before the first day of employment).
  • Must be able to successfully complete required DCYF background and fingerprint checks before the first day of hire.
  • You are able to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on your first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
  • You have reliable transportation and the ability to assist at other childcare sites as needed. Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).

Wage: $21.35 to $26.89 per hour, (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)
Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Shift: Before school 6:00 am - 9:00 am and after school 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm (Hours vary depending on school district) Lead Teachers work some hours outside of the posted schedule above. (this is a year-round position, including Summer months).

Before and After School Lead Teacher Job Description
Position Summary
The Before and After School Lead Teacher is a year round position responsible to plan, organize, implement, coordinate, and control services of the child care program. Provides leadership and direction for part-time staff and children, ensures positive communication with parents, children, schools, and other staff; practices risk management; and develops positive community relations. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

โ€ข Greet all parents daily and inform them of all program changes. Communicate frequently with parents concerning their child's behavior, academic progress and socialization in the program.
โ€ข Directly supervise children at all times and maintain program/site in compliance with state licensing standards.
โ€ข Keep all child files complete and up to date.
โ€ข Follow the guidelines, policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies, in the YMCA Staff and Parent Handbooks and Association Staff Handbook. Complete all required forms daily and monthly.
โ€ข Dispense medication according to the Medication Authorization Form and maintain accurate records of such. Ensure proper storage of medication according to required standards. Return medication to parents/guardian, as needed.
โ€ข Communicate effectively with licensors, site leaders, program director, and team.
โ€ข Plan and develop a daily schedule of classroom routines and activities. Prepare and implement curriculum. Provide an integrated, child centered, comprehensive curriculum and multicultural environment, which meets the needs of every child, including those with disabilities.
โ€ข Plan and meet with school principal on a monthly basis to discuss how the YMCA and your program can support the school's academic targets and goals.
โ€ข Plan and participate in monthly connectivity hours.
โ€ข Set every child up for success; implement "Plan of Success" form when needed and meet with all parties involved to create a plan to success.
โ€ข Assume other responsibilities as mutually agreed upon with supervisor.
โ€ข Understand and be able to explain financial assistance to staff and members.
โ€ข Understand and monitor FTE's and enrollment number in program. Program should reach licensed capacity and plans should be created to increase that number. Meet performance measurement through annual giving, major gifts, and/or endowment by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
โ€ข Participate in the Annual Campaign by reaching site goal and asking 100% of the parents in the program.
โ€ข Recruit at least 1-3 parents to be an Annual Campaign volunteer.
โ€ข Support the program director and region team by coming alongside and strategizing on a region-wide approach on how each program will reach given goal.
โ€ข Cleaning and sanitation protocols will be required of all staff.
โ€ข Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas.
โ€ข Staff are expected to adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of PPE.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
โ€ข Minimum of 18 years of age or older.
โ€ข Two years or full time equivalent in management experience a minimum of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and Elementary Education or possess equivalent educational background in courses relating to child care.
โ€ข You are committed to completing STARS training within 60 days of hire (the YMCA will support you in achieving this state requirement).
โ€ข Meet minimum Washington State Administrative Code by obtaining the full 30 college quarter credits within the next 4 years to continue employment.
โ€ข Previous experience working with children in a child care setting
โ€ข Knowledge of school-aged child development
