Description:
Facilitate day-to-day management and instruction of students as directed by the Administrator and the Academy Board.
Qualifications:
  • Except as otherwise provided by law, the Academy shall use certificated teachers according to state board rule
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to work with urban and rural youth in a multi-racial academy
  • Experience with developing a thematic interdisciplinary curriculum
  • Experience with hands-on/minds-on teaching
  • Understand how information technology can be integrated into curricula
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Must pass state and federal criminal background check

Responsibilities:
  • Curriculum
    • Articulate a plan of instruction for multi-age grouping in accordance with the MDE benchmarking
    • Utilize food, agriculture, renewable resources and environmental (FARE) themes
    • Integrate technology throughout the curriculum
    • Outcome based assessment, based on grade level groupings and MDE
    • Develop and use multiple assessment strategies to evaluate student learning
  • Classroom Management
    • Create classroom curriculum that facilitates instruction
    • Establish procedures and classroom rules
    • Communicate oral and written administrative action to parents and Administrator
    • Provide a warm and inviting atmosphere
    • Record attendance, lunch and grades for all students
    • Promote a clean and safe working environment

Communication
  • Communicate expectations to students
  • Evaluate and communicate student progress to parents on a regular basis
  • Communicate volunteer needs to parents
  • Make contributions to Academy newsletters

Leadership
  • Provide guidance and direction to Paraprofessionals on a regular basis
  • Evaluate Paraprofessional performance and assist in "action plan" for improvement if needed
  • Contribute to the leadership of the "Staff Cabinet"
  • Actively pursue the vision of the Academy as set forth by the Academy Board

Total Learning Environment
  • Carry out the policies adopted by the Academy Board as interpreted by the Administrator (examples of Board policies include: dress code policy and code of conduct policy)
  • Monitor the safety of all children
  • Monitor appropriateness of computer use in accordance with acceptable use permit

Perform all other duties assigned by the Administrator and/or Academy Board
