Job description

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT: 

Secures necessary patient information relating to the scheduling and/or processing of surgical procedures. Schedules surgeries and performs required procedures including documentation. Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations. Coordinates information provided for business services functions including CPT-4 and ICD-9 coding.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Medical terminology and CPT-4 coding knowledge required.
  • Microsoft Office

REFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

  • 2 or more years related experience in a health care environment. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Detail oriented individual with strong human relation and organizational skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  1. Coordinate in-patient and out-patient procedures and exams for appropriate locations providing all pre-registration information to medical facilities. Coordinate related information pertaining to patient medications. 
  2. Secure all prior authorization, precertification, and referrals from federal and state government agencies and out-of-plan referring physicians, while completing all required forms and documentation.
  3. Ensure accuracy, confirm and update pending physician's review.  Proactively recognize and solve problems arising from insurance, billing, government regulations, and customer service. 
  4. Assist Business Services/Coding departments on procedures, insurance requirements; provides information requested by those departments. Coordinates communication of fee and coding issues between physician and business services.
  5. Administrative tasks to support Surgeon.  These tasks may include:
    • Prep surgery packets for patients, explain preparation for surgery/sage wipes, etc.
    • Coordinates lecture schedules, seminar attendance, credentialing for hospital procedures, and completes necessary travel and entertainment arrangements as required by physicians.
    • Create and maintain weekly/monthly surgeon itineraries and calendars.
  6. Performs other tasks as assigned.
