Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

Community and Family Services support work is focused on supporting, promoting, and enhancing well-being of individuals and families as well as assisting immediate needs of clients, donors, and visitors through emergency client assistance, Food Bank, community feeding programs, community referrals, seasonal programs (including Income Tax, Backpacks, Summer Camps, and Christmas) and other programs that are developed to meet the needs of clients and the community.

The role will provide general support to various services in the Community and Family Services setting of a Ministry Unit.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Plan, Set Up, Run, Clean Up "Courage" - an empowerment group for boys ages 8-14. Monthly activities.
  • Develop and execute new programming for Teenagers - goal of an activity every other week
  • May assist with "Camp Connect" - a new discipleship program - for either parents and children, or children/youth exclusively
  • May assist with Christmas Toy/Food Assistance Distribution (may be a seasonal increase in hours during the month of December for this purpose)
  • May assist with identification and registration of children for summer camp
  • May assist with a local Spring Break Camp
  • The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
  • As directed, support development of program activities for the community - identifying opportunities for new programming
  • Work in a team setting supporting various tasks and activities.
  • Provide general assistance during public relations events and regular campaigns.
  • Maintain strict confidentially of all matters pertaining to the program participants.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures relating to the programs.
  • May chaperon the students as the driver does drop offs and picks ups of the students for various programs.
  • May assist with different basic administrative tasks - photocopy activities, greeting visitors, supporting reception, forwarding visitors, etc. as required.
  • May keep a log of different activities.
  • Assists in the organization, Maintenance:, and general cleanliness of the lessons area.
  • Assist with the MU/facility general clean up and set up for different activities.
  • Provide general information to visitors.
  • Collaborate with Community Ministries Co-ordinator to ensure effective program delivery(e.g. cafe, market service, workshops)
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:

  • Minor material responsibility (proper use of food, proper file handling, etc.)
  • Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources.
  • May be authorized to handle cash, during major campaigns.
  • Little input to annual budget or revenue projections.
  • The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army's Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Working environment is typically in the corps building in generally agreeable conditions and some outdoor duties.
  • Some work over weekends and evenings may be required.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • May deal with upset people or challenging behaviours.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary program of two academic years
  • An alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Two years of relevant experience
  • Comfortable using and maintaining a digital database
  • Knowledge and skill in social media platforms and management
  • Experience in event planning.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor, volunteer, and organizational information
  • Creative and flexible with the ability to adapt based on team, program, and service needs.
  • Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
  • Exhibit good listening and interpersonal skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $21.28 to $26.60 with a maximum of $31.92.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
