As a Coding Specialist in our Medical Records department, you will accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT and PCS codes to all applicable patient encounters and actively participate in our Clinical Documentation Improvement Program You will develop and maintain positive relationships with our patients, guests, and other team members by striving for excellence in service and quality. For our team members this is more than a career, it's a calling.
You will be responsible to:
  • Identify and code all patient encounters in your assigned queues
  • Accurately calculate APC grouping
  • Understand policies, procedures and federal guidelines that apply directly to coding and other work performed within the Medical Records Department
  • Understand the utilization of Coding References: ICD10 CM, PCS and CPT books, AHA Coding Clinics and CPT Assistant
  • Communicate current and revised coding changes and clarifications to ancillary departments and Medical Staff members
  • Review injection, infusion, OPS and ER charges for accuracy while assigning codes for billing
  • Adhere to the requirements of the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services and other regulatory agencies
What you will need:
  • High School Diploma, classes in Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology
  • 2 years of acute care/hospital coding experience
  • Experience with Cerner and Solventum/3M preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams preferred
  • Recommended certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC or CCS-P
  • Effective communication skills required
  • This position is fully remote. You must provide a secure work environment and high speed internet
  • You must be able to work independently, contributing toward Coding Team goals and expectations
  • Knowledge of ICD 10-CM, PCS and CPT coding is required
  • Must Understand Coding Guidelines
  • Must understand the requirements of CMS and other regulatory agencies
