Position Overview

Greenville ISD is seeking a motivated and dependable Plumber Apprentice to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems throughout district campuses and facilities. This position works under the supervision of a licensed plumber and assists in ensuring safe, functional, and code-compliant plumbing operations across the district.


Primary Purpose

Assist in performing plumbing maintenance, repairs, and installations in district facilities while gaining hands-on experience and training toward becoming a licensed plumber.


Qualifications

Education / Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must be eligible to register as a plumbing apprentice in the State of Texas
  • Valid Texas driver's license required

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing tools, materials, and safety practices preferred
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Willingness to learn plumbing systems, codes, and district procedures
  • Strong work ethic, dependability, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in a school environment

Experience:

  • Prior construction, maintenance, or trade-related experience preferred but not required

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Plumbing Support & Training

  • Assist licensed plumbers with plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation projects
  • Learn to troubleshoot plumbing issues such as leaks, clogs, drainage problems, and fixture repairs
  • Support preventative maintenance on plumbing systems and equipment

Repairs & Maintenance

  • Help install and repair sinks, toilets, faucets, water heaters, and piping systems
  • Assist with campus work orders in a timely and efficient manner
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of work areas

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all district safety guidelines and proper use of tools and equipment
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable plumbing codes and regulations
  • Report hazards, damaged equipment, or major repair needs to supervisor promptly

Facilities Support

  • Transport tools, materials, and supplies to job sites
  • Maintain inventory of plumbing parts and assist with supply organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Facilities operations

Working Conditions

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting heavy materials
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, crawl spaces, and on ladders

Environmental Factors:

  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to water, sewage, chemicals, dust, and maintenance-related materials
