Codesys information

What is a Codesys?

A Codesys job typically involves developing, programming, and maintaining automation and control systems using the Codesys platform. Professionals in this role work with PLCs, motion control, and industrial automation applications, often within manufacturing, automotive, or process industries. They design and implement software logic, test systems, and troubleshoot automation processes to ensure efficiency and reliability. Strong knowledge of IEC 61131-3 programming languages and experience with fieldbus protocols like CANopen or Modbus are often required.

What does a Codesys do?

As a CodeSys Engineer, your daily responsibilities usually include developing, testing, and maintaining PLC code using the CODESYS platform for various automated machinery or production lines. You will collaborate closely with electrical engineers, controls specialists, and project managers to ensure the smooth integration of automation solutions. Tasks often involve troubleshooting onsite equipment, updating software, and documenting your work thoroughly to meet safety and compliance standards. This role requires strong attention to detail and proactive communication, as you often need to coordinate with both technical and non-technical team members.

What skills and qualifications are needed for a Codesys?

To thrive in a CodeSys Engineer role, you need a solid background in PLC programming, automation systems, and electrical engineering, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree or technical training. Mastery of the CODESYS development environment, knowledge of industrial communication protocols, and certifications from automation vendors are often required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart. These competencies are crucial for designing, implementing, and troubleshooting automated systems in industrial settings.

Job description

1. Controls Engineer

Job Title: Controls Engineer Company: Bright IA – Intelligent Automation Location: Fort Worth, TX (on-site + regional client sites) Type: Full-time

About Us Bright IA is a controls and robotics system integrator and machine builder serving manufacturers across the Dallas–Fort Worth area and the Southwest U.S. We're a FANUC Authorized System Integrator, KUKA Partner, Rockwell expert integrator, and CODESYS System Partner. We deliver engineered, turnkey automation — built on honesty, precision, and high performance.

The Role We're looking for a hands-on Controls Engineer to design, program, and commission industrial control systems from concept through on-site startup. You'll own the controls side of projects across robotics work cells, motion systems, and full production lines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications (primarily Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Studio 5000 & FactoryTalk)
  • Design UL 508A-style control panels and produce electrical schematics
  • Configure motion control, VFDs, servo drives, and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT)
  • Integrate vision systems, safety circuits, and FANUC robotic cells into the broader control architecture
  • Commission systems on-site, troubleshoot, and support customer startup
  • Produce clean documentation and follow functional safety best practices

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on industrial controls engineering experience
  • Strong Allen-Bradley / Rockwell programming (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk) — required
  • Working experience integrating FANUC robots — required
  • Solid grasp of ladder logic and structured text (IEC 61131-3)
  • Comfortable on the plant floor and traveling to client sites
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (required for ITAR-controlled and government-related work)

Preferred

  • CODESYS, KUKA, or ABB experience
  • Vision systems (Keyence, Cognex), metrology, or scanning
  • Functional safety (FSoE / DCS), SCADA/MES (Ignition), or panel build background

What We Offer Real, cutting-edge projects (not maintenance babysitting), a tight expert team, and a professional-but-friendly culture where pranks are accepted and quality is non-negotiable.
