Your role at GEI.
GEI's Waterfront and Coastal Engineering group is seeking a Senior Civil / Structural Engineer with strong structural design experience. The ideal candidate will have structural experience in bridge, waterfront, heavy civil or infrastructure projects. Previous experience of construction in or around water would be advantageous. In this role you will manage and design various waterfront and coastal projects such as marine terminals, port facilities, shipyards, recreational piers, harbors, marinas, waterfront parks, coastal revetment/retaining walls, shoreline improvements or restorations, and coastal resiliency initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Manage and execute waterfront engineering projects.
  • Mentor staff or team in technical discipline.
  • Perform engineering analysis, design and technical specifications for all phases of project development from planning through Final Design
  • Lead above and below water field inspections.
  • Serve as company representative during construction projects.
  • Perform structural calculations for steel, concrete, timber and aluminum structures.
  • Perform geotechnical calculations.
  • Prepare engineers opinion of probable cost for construction.
  • Prepare and edit drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Assign and review work for technical accuracy.
  • Prepare written reports and client correspondence.
  • Support marketing and business development, including proposals and client engagement.

Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S in Civil Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience working on structural engineering design projects - steel, concrete, timber and aluminum design preferred.
  • Experience leading field teams.
  • Ability to travel for site visits / inspections, client meetings, and business development opportunities (to include overnight travel, as needed).
  • Familiarity with permitting at local, state and federal levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Registered professional engineer in Massachusetts, or ability to obtain reciprocity in Massachusetts within 1 year of hire date.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MS in Civil Engineering
  • Waterfront design experience.
  • Experience preparing proposals.
  • Experience with construction management.
  • Small boat operation experience.
  • SCUBA or commercial diving qualifications with willingness to incorporate skills in workplace.
