The Ardsley School District is seeking an energetic, organized, and student-centered individual to serve as Varsity Cheerleading Assistant Coach. This role is ideal for a candidate who is passionate about spirit programs, performance, and supporting student-athletes in a team environment that values school pride, safety, and personal growth.
The Assistant Coach will support the Head Coach in all aspects of the cheerleading program, including sideline cheer, game-day responsibilities, and competition preparation. The ideal candidate will help foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture while emphasizing technique, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of cheerleading fundamentals including motions, jumps, stunts, tumbling, and game-day routines
  • Previous cheerleading coaching or participation experience preferred
  • Understanding of safety standards related to stunting and performance
  • Ability to teach, motivate, and support student-athletes of varying experience levels
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • Commitment to fostering school spirit, sportsmanship, and team unity
  • Interested candidates should possess or be willing to obtain the necessary coaching certification requirements from NYSED.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Varsity Cheerleading Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in organizing and implementing all aspects of the cheer program. This includes assisting with practices, performances, and game-day responsibilities while maintaining a strong focus on safety, skill development, and team culture.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruction & Skill Development
  • Assist in teaching cheer fundamentals including motions, chants, jumps, stunts, and routines
  • Support the development and execution of sideline cheers and competition routines
  • Reinforce proper technique and safety practices during all activities

Team Support & Supervision
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, performances, and team events
  • Assist with game-day responsibilities
  • Help maintain a structured, safe, and positive team environment

Program Alignment
  • Work collaboratively with the Head Coach to ensure consistency in expectations, routines, and team standards
  • Support program goals and contribute to a unified cheer program

Student-Athlete Experience
  • Serve as a positive role model, promoting teamwork, respect, and accountability
  • Support monitoring of student-athlete academic progress and conduct

Operations & Compliance
  • Adhere to all district policies and regulations set by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), where applicable
  • Follow all procedures related to injuries, safety protocols, and emergency situations

Communication
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with student-athletes, families, and coaching staff
  • Support the overall mission and initiatives of the athletic department
