Ottawa University (established in 1865), one of the oldest private liberal arts universities in the United States, is a multi-campus system serving approximately 4000 students through its campuses in Kansas (Ottawa, Kansas- Residential Campus and Overland Park, Kansas- Adult Programs); Arizona (Surprise Residential Campus and OUAZ Adult Programs); Wisconsin (Brookfield Adult Programs); and our OU ONLINE PROGRAM based out of Overland Park, Kansas.ย

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for assistance and organization to the administration of a university athletic program including the recruitment of student athletes, coaching, mentoring, instructing, practice management, athletic team competition management, and the retention of student athletes.ย 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (provide list of items which are essential to effective outcomes in this role):

  • Duties/responsibilities of position include: teaching, mentoring, instructing and imparting knowledge, to student athletes, as a part of an athletic team and program.ย  ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 
  • ย ย ย ย ย ย  Primary Position Responsibilities:

    -Lead and manage the Junior Varsity team/rosterย 

    -Assist in the recruitment planning of prospective student-athletes

    -Assist in team training development plans

    -Team and opponent film analysis and tactical presentations based on analysis

    -Participates as a member of a coaching team to recruit, retain, and graduate student-athletes, contributing to the success of the program and vibrancy of campus life.ย  Provide ongoing support to student-athletes concerning their academic progress toward degree completion.ย 

  • Provides ongoing support and conversation to student athletes to assure a strong relationship and support with the athlete and family, guide student athletes in all aspects of program participation.ย ย 
  • Contributes toward meeting team enrollment targets and the retention of student athletes.ย 
  • Collaborates with and support other coaches and personnel within the athletic department.ย ย 
  • Ensures adherence to the NAIA and rules and regulations including the NAIA Champions of Character 5 core valuesย 
  • Provides leadership to student athletes regarding campus involvement and community service.ย 
  • Provides Christ-centered leadership and direction as a mentor of the assigned program.ย 
  • Provides a strong academic emphasis and support of academics through your leadership and activities of the athletic team.ย  Be mindful of the contribution the student-athletes make to the Surprise community including academic performance and participation in and contribution to non-athletic activities.
