Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
Department: Athletics
Employment Type: Full-Time, 12-Month Staff
Salary Range: $11,000 - $12,500 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications

What We're Looking For
Ferrum College is seeking a motivated, energetic, and passionate Assistant Men's Basketball Coach to support the Head Men's Basketball Coach in all aspects of the men's basketball program.
The Assistant Coach will assist with recruiting, evaluating, coaching, mentoring, team practices, competitions, budgeting, and program administration. The successful candidate will help build and maintain a competitive roster while promoting a culture of compliance with NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas, and Ferrum College policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, recruit, coach, and mentor qualified student-athletes.
  • Assist in preparing student-athletes for a competitive intercollegiate basketball experience.
  • Execute the Head Coach's recruitment plan to build a strong and competitive roster at the local, regional, and national levels.
  • Assist with organizing and conducting team practices, games, and other basketball program activities.
  • Assist with program budgeting and administrative operations.
  • Promote and maintain a culture of compliance with NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas, and Ferrum College rules and regulations.
  • Support student-athletes in meeting academic expectations and maintaining academic progress.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to student-athletes and direct them to appropriate academic and campus resources when needed.
  • Travel locally, regionally, and nationally for regular-season and postseason competitions, conference and national meetings, recruiting, fundraising, alumni activities, and community events.
  • Participate in fundraising, alumni engagement, and community outreach activities.
  • Serve in an administrative capacity as directed by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics.
  • Participate on department and campus-wide committees as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Current and valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends throughout the year.
  • Commitment to NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas, and institutional rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Collegiate playing experience.
  • Previous collegiate coaching experience.
  • Experience with collegiate recruiting and student-athlete development.
