Coach Internships information

What is a coach internship?

Coach internships are structured, short-term learning opportunities designed to give aspiring coaches practical experience in their chosen sport or field. Interns typically work under the supervision of experienced coaches, assisting with training sessions, planning practices, and sometimes helping with administrative tasks. These internships help interns develop coaching skills, understand team dynamics, and build professional networks. They are commonly offered by schools, sports clubs, colleges, and community organizations.

What are the typical responsibilities and learning opportunities in a coach internship?

As a coach intern, you'll typically assist with planning and conducting practice sessions, supporting athletes during training, and handling some administrative tasks like maintaining equipment or recording attendance. You'll have the chance to observe experienced coaches, learn about sports program management, and develop your leadership and communication skills. This role often involves direct interaction with athletes, giving feedback, and collaborating with other staff members to ensure a positive team environment. Coach internships provide valuable hands-on experience that can pave the way for future coaching or sports management positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a coach intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Coach Intern, you generally need foundational knowledge of coaching principles, a background in sports or physical education, and often current enrollment in a relevant degree program. Familiarity with sports analysis tools, practice planning software, and basic first aid certification are commonly expected. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills help Coach Interns build rapport with athletes and support the coaching staff effectively. These skills ensure productive training environments, athlete development, and smooth team operations while you learn and grow in the role.

Job description

Fitness Coach / Personal Trainer

Paid Internship No Certification Required

Fort Worth Fit Body Boot Camp Fort Worth, TX

Pay: $14.00–$16.00 per hour

Job Type:

  • Part-time
  • Paid Internship

Expected Hours:

  • Approximately 9–15 hours per week

Availability Needed

Our immediate need is within our growing Fit Body Forever program, which serves adults primarily 60+.

We are looking for an intern with consistent availability during some of the following daytime hours:

  • Monday, Wednesday & Friday: between 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday: between 10:00 a.m.–11:45 a.m.

You do not need to be available for every hour listed. We're looking for someone who can consistently work within some of these timeframes.

As you progress through our internship and coaching development program, you will also be cross-trained to coach our Fit Body Boot Camp program. Additional early-morning and evening coaching opportunities may become available as you develop.

About the Internship

At Fort Worth Fit Body Boot Camp, we believe fitness changes lives, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally.

Our Coach Internship Program is designed to develop well-rounded fitness professionals through hands-on coaching, mentorship, leadership training, and real-world experience.

You'll begin your coaching development primarily within our Fit Body Forever program, an ever-growing program designed to help adults 60+ build strength, improve mobility and balance, maintain independence, and age with confidence.

As your skills, confidence, and coaching ability grow, we'll cross-train you within our Fit Body Boot Camp program, giving you experience coaching different ages, abilities, fitness levels, and training styles.

Our goal isn't simply to teach you how to run a workout. We want to develop you into a confident, knowledgeable coach who can connect with people and make a meaningful difference in their lives.

No Certification? No Problem.

Don't let that stop you from applying.

We're looking for the right person, not just the right résumé.

If you're passionate about fitness, love helping people, and are eager to learn, we'll provide the training and mentorship you need.

For the right candidate, we'll even pay for your nationally recognized personal training certification.

Experience is helpful, but character, coachability, dependability, and a genuine passion for helping others matter even more.

What You'll Learn

During your internship, you'll progressively learn how to:

  • Coach small-group strength and functional fitness sessions
  • Work with adults 60+ through our Fit Body Forever program
  • Help members improve strength, mobility, balance, and confidence
  • Demonstrate and modify exercises for different abilities and fitness levels
  • Coach safe, engaging, and encouraging training sessions
  • Build genuine relationships with members
  • Improve your communication and leadership skills
  • Motivate and hold clients accountable
  • Understand client retention and the member experience
  • Coach our signature 45-minute Fit Body Forever and our 30-minute Fit Body Boot Camp workouts
  • Work with a broader range of ages and fitness levels

You'll start by learning the Fit Body Forever side of our business and, as you progress, be cross-trained into Fit Body Boot Camp.

By the end of the internship, our goal is for you to have experience coaching both programs and the skills needed to continue growing as a fitness professional.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:

  • Genuinely loves helping people
  • Enjoys working with older adults
  • Brings positive, contagious energy
  • Is patient, compassionate, and encouraging
  • Is coachable and wants feedback
  • Is eager to learn and grow
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Enjoys building relationships
  • Is dependable and professional
  • Takes initiative and has a strong work ethic
  • Understands that great coaching is about much more than counting reps

If you're simply looking for a job to clock in and clock out, this probably isn't the right fit.

But if you're looking for mentorship, personal growth, hands-on experience, and an opportunity to develop into a well-rounded fitness coach, we'd love to meet you.

Qualifications

Preferred, but not required:

  • Personal Training Certification (NASM, ACE, ISSA, ACSM, NSCA, etc.)
  • CPR/AED Certification or willingness to obtain
  • Exercise science, kinesiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or related studies
  • Coaching, group fitness, athletic, senior fitness, or customer service experience

Required:

  • Outstanding communication and people skills
  • Reliable transportation
  • Consistent availability during some of our daytime Fit Body Forever hours
  • Ability to demonstrate exercises and safely handle fitness equipment
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and grow

The right attitude is more important than experience. If you're the right fit, we'll train you from the ground up and may pay for your personal training certification.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $14.00–$16.00 per hour
  • Paid internship
  • Personal training certification paid for the right candidate
  • Hands-on mentorship from experienced fitness professionals
  • Experience coaching both Fit Body Forever and Fit Body Boot Camp
  • Leadership and professional development
  • Ongoing education and coaching
  • Career advancement opportunities
  • Positive, supportive team culture
