How much do co2 welder jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 1, 2026, the average hourly pay for co2 welder in the United States is $23.96, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.19 and $26.44 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How much does a CO2 welder earn?

A CO2 welder typically earns between $40,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Skilled welders with certifications and experience in industrial or manufacturing settings may earn higher wages and additional benefits.

What are CO2 welders?

CO2 welders are skilled tradespeople who specialize in welding using carbon dioxide (CO2) as a shielding gas, typically in a process called Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding or Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). The CO2 gas protects the weld pool from atmospheric contamination, resulting in strong, clean welds. CO2 welding is commonly used in manufacturing, automotive, and construction industries due to its efficiency and cost-effectiveness. CO2 welders must have technical knowledge, attention to safety, and proficiency in operating welding equipment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CO2 Welder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CO2 Welder, you need strong skills in welding techniques, blueprint reading, and metal fabrication, typically supported by vocational training or welding certification. Familiarity with CO2 welding machines, safety equipment, and quality inspection tools is essential. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and strong problem-solving abilities are important soft skills in this role. These skills ensure precise, safe, and high-quality welds that meet industry standards and contribute to successful project outcomes.

What are some common challenges CO2 Welders face when working on large-scale projects?

CO2 Welders often encounter challenges such as maintaining consistent weld quality over long periods, especially when working on large or complex structures. Managing heat distortion and ensuring strong joints in varying positions can be demanding, requiring attention to detail and adaptability. Additionally, working in team settings means effective communication with supervisors and other trades is essential to coordinate tasks and meet tight project deadlines. Being proactive about safety and equipment maintenance also plays a crucial role in overcoming daily obstacles.

Do welders make $100 an hour?

Co2 welders' hourly wages vary based on experience, location, and industry, but earning $100 an hour is uncommon for most welders. Highly skilled or specialized welders working in high-demand sectors or with advanced certifications may approach or exceed this rate, especially in regions with high living costs or in niche markets. Generally, average welder pay is lower, with many earning between $20 and $50 per hour.

What is the difference between Co2 Welder vs Arc Welder?

AspectCo2 WelderArc Welder

Work EnvironmentFactories, construction sites, manufacturing plantsFactories, construction sites, manufacturing plants
Common UsageGas metal arc welding (GMAW), MIG weldingShielded metal arc welding (SMAW), stick welding

Both Co2 Welders and Arc Welders often hold similar certifications and work in comparable environments. The main difference lies in the welding techniques: Co2 Welders primarily use MIG welding with CO2 gas, while Arc Welders typically perform stick welding. Understanding these distinctions helps employers and workers choose the right role for specific projects.

What welding jobs pay $50 an hour?

Co2 welders with specialized skills, certifications, and experience in industrial or construction settings can earn around $50 an hour or more. High-paying welding jobs often require certifications such as AWS or ASME, proficiency with advanced equipment, and the ability to work in demanding environments or overtime schedules.

Can you make $300,000 as a welder?

Co2 welders can potentially earn $300,000 annually, but this level of income is typically achieved through extensive experience, specialized skills, working in high-paying industries like oil and gas, or overtime and project-based work. Most welders' salaries vary based on location, certifications, and the complexity of projects they undertake.
