POSITION SUMMARY: The Manufacturing Engineer will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and will be responsible for the development, improvement, and implementation of manufacturing processes, methods, quality, and controls in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams and will be responsible for identifying and implementing process improvements, documenting work instructions, performing troubleshooting, and maintaining control documents per ISO requirements. The Manufacturing Engineer will also be responsible for evaluating and recommending vendors, materials, and equipment for changes to manufacturing processes, and must maintain a strong working knowledge in the safe operating procedures for compressed natural gas and the various compliance requirements affiliated with CNG fuel systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Identify, implement, and improve manufacturing processes, methods, quality, and controls in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Develop and document step-by-step work instructions for assigned products to facilitate manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain control documents per ISO requirements and ensure all processes meet ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Evaluate and recommend vendors, materials, and equipment for changes to manufacturing processes with justification and ROI analysis.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of safe operating procedures for compressed natural gas and the various compliance requirements affiliated with CNG fuel systems.
  • Participates and leads in cross-functional team reviews; collects and tabulates metrics; gathers and analyzes data using six sigma tools and methodologies; schedules tracking systems and other process improvement tools.
  • Develop and document step by step work instructions for assigned products to facilitate manufacturing processes. Maintains control documents per ISO requirements. Ensure all processes area meet ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Document design, procedures, and BOM (Bill of Materials) of any products or projects as assigned. Ensure thorough design reviews throughout the development process via prototypes, multi-disciplined teams, and various analytical tools.
  • Takes corrective actions based on problem reports and change requests as needed within both the fabrication and production areas as needed.
  • Performs troubleshooting, calibrations, or modifications of hardware, fixtures, and software. Assists with the migration from one technology platform to another technology platform such as manufacturing software, software platform integrations, etc.
  • Provides ergonomic assessments of current and future processes/applications. Determines and balances operations manning with production schedules, develops standard operation times, conducts various studies.
  • Develops procedures and plant arrangements to ensure proper material handling and storage.
  • Evaluates and recommends vendors, material, and equipment for changes to manufacturing processes with justification and ROI analysis.
  • Performing (process) failure modes and effects analysis ((P)FMEA), KPI tracking, job safety analysis (JSA), Develop design-for-manufacturing criteria (DFM) and process capability expertise to provide input to future product and process design activities etc.
  • Specify, cost justify, design, develop and test various tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods; and/or oversee the sourcing thereof.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge in the safe operating procedures for compressed natural gas and the various compliance requirements affiliated with CNG fuel systems.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering from an accredited college and 5 years’ experience, preferably with OEM or engine manufacturing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of CAD software is a requirement.
  • Experience in Autodesk Inventor/AutoCAD, assembly/fabrication equipment, equipment programming, and six sigma methodologies are a plus.
  • Experience in design projects, manufacturing process, programming manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • PLC and HMI diagnostic/repair experience is a plus (1 year).
  • Experience in fabrication and CNC equipment programming is a plus.
  • Must be willing to travel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to navigate using air and ground transport with moderate to extensive travel.Keep in mind this is a hands-on position that requires you to be out in the production plant working at times.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Duties are performed in a loud environment (production setting) subject to relative ambient temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
