What is CNC threading?

CNC threading is a machining process in which threads are cut or formed on a workpiece using a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine. This process ensures high precision and repeatability, allowing for the creation of threads on materials such as metal or plastic according to exact specifications. CNC threading is commonly used in industries like automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing for producing threaded parts such as bolts, screws, and pipes. The process can accommodate various thread types, including internal and external threads, and is suitable for both small and large production runs.

What is the difference between Cnc Threading vs Cnc Milling?

AspectCnc ThreadingCnc Milling
Primary FunctionCreating threaded parts and screw threadsCutting and shaping various parts with multiple axes
Tools UsedThreading tools, taps, diesEnd mills, face mills, drills
Work EnvironmentPrecision machining, small to medium partsVersatile manufacturing, complex parts

While both Cnc Threading and Cnc Milling involve CNC machine operation and require similar certifications, Cnc Threading specializes in creating screw threads and threaded components, whereas Cnc Milling focuses on shaping a variety of parts with multiple axes. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right skill set for specific manufacturing tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CNC Threading Operator, and why are they important?

To excel as a CNC Threading Operator, you need a solid understanding of machining principles, blueprint reading, and experience with CNC machine operation, often supported by vocational training or certifications. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, G-code programming, and precision measurement tools is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills help ensure quality and efficiency. These competencies are crucial for producing accurate threaded parts, maintaining safety standards, and minimizing production errors.

How does a CNC Threading operator typically collaborate with engineers and quality control teams on a daily basis?

As a CNC Threading operator, you will regularly communicate with engineers to interpret technical drawings and ensure correct threading specifications. Collaboration with quality control teams is essential, as they rely on you to provide accurate measurements and report any deviations from standards. This teamwork helps maintain product quality and minimize production errors, making strong communication skills and attention to detail valuable assets in this role.

The Company:

Czarnowski is one of the four studios of the Czarnowski Collective. It combines operations, strategy, design, and fabrication to create exhibits and events that engage communities, generate brand enthusiasm, and educate consumers. It’s been over 75 years since we opened our doors, but we’re still not resting on our reputation or accolades. We’re wondering “what if...” anticipating what’s next and embracing our role within the Czarnowski Collective as forward-thinkers for forward-thinking brands.

Joining the Czarnowski Collective means the opportunity to be more than a number, more than a job title, more than a spectator. We are a collective of dreamers and thinkers, doers, and makers…and we’re searching for more of the same to join the ranks.

The Purpose:

Join a team where precision meets innovation. We’re looking for a skilled CNC Operator who takes pride in creating high-quality machined parts through programming, setup, and operation of CNC equipment. In this role, you’ll work with advanced technology, contribute to exciting projects, and play a key part in delivering exceptional products with accuracy and efficiency.

The Job:

  • Plan machining operations by reviewing work orders, blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and machining parameters while interpreting GD&T requirements.
  • Manage stock and material inventory by monitoring supply levels, anticipating needs, and coordinating orders and deliveries.
  • Program CNC mills and lathes by entering machine instructions, setting offsets and tool registers, and performing calculations involving basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Set up CNC mills and lathes by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, collets, vises, attachments, and other machine components.
  • Load raw materials and stock into machines safely and accurately for production runs.
  • Verify machine settings and first-run parts using precision measuring tools to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Operate CNC equipment to perform drilling, cutting, grooving, turning, facing, threading, and related machining operations.
  • Troubleshoot machining and programming issues, make machine adjustments, and replace or sharpen worn tooling as needed.
  • Maintain product quality by following established quality assurance procedures and inspection processes.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and coordinate repairs when necessary to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain continuity between shifts by documenting production activity, communicating irregularities, and sharing ongoing operational needs with team members and supervisors.
  • Complete and maintain accurate production reports, inspection records, and quality documentation.
  • Stay current on machining techniques, equipment, and industry standards through training opportunities and technical resources.
  • Support organizational goals by taking initiative, adapting to new responsibilities, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.

The Person:

  • Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills with the ability to improve machining processes and production efficiency
  • Effective verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members across departments
  • Solid technical and functional CNC machining knowledge, including tooling, controls, and instrumentation
  • Experience with inventory control, supply management, and maintaining organized work areas
  • Highly detail-oriented with a focus on precision, accuracy, and quality workmanship
  • Strong coordination and time management skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities when troubleshooting equipment or production issues

This position is eligible for health care benefits, life insurance, time off benefits and participation in the Company's 401(k) plan.

What we offer:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits effective within 30 days (or less) of your start date

  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Paid Holidays
  • Collaborative Work Environment
