Job description

Midwest Valve Services, a Novaspect company, is currently offering an opportunity for a CNC & Manual Machinist to join our fast-paced, customer-oriented team. The successful candidate will exemplify and promote Novaspect Identity throughout the team while having advanced manual machining experience and excellent mechanical skills.
CNC & Manual Machinist Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
CNC Machining Responsibilities
  • Set up, program, edit, and operate CNC milling and/or turning machines
  • Develop, modify, and optimize G-code and M-code programs as required
  • Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and work holding methods for CNC operations
  • Verify CNC programs through dry runs, first-article inspection, and test cuts
  • Monitor machine performance and make offsets and adjustments to ensure dimensional accuracy
  • Troubleshoot CNC machining issues related to programs, tooling, materials, or machine operation
  • Apply best practices for repeatability, efficiency, and quality control
  • Maintain CNC machines through basic preventative maintenance and routine checks

Manual Machining Responsibilities
  • Advanced knowledge in the setup and operation of manual milling machines and vertical lathes
  • Manually machine parts to precise dimensions and surface finishes per drawings and specifications
  • Proper selection and application of: Tooling, Cutting speeds, Feed rates
  • Design and fabricate custom tooling and fixtures to support manual and CNC operations
  • Troubleshoot and correct machining issues related to tooling, materials, and setup
  • Read, interpret, and work from shop drawings, blueprints, and specifications

Operational & Support Responsibilities
  • Perform service requests assigned under the supervision of the Shop Manager and Field Lead Technicians
  • Drive company vehicles to and from job sites as required
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to machining processes and workflow

General Machining & Technical Skills
  • Ability to interpret and modify CAD-based digital drawings and models, supporting CNC machining, tooling development, and continuous process improvement.
  • Understanding of intermediate metallurgy, including material selection and machinability
  • Understanding of material combinations related to wear, galling, and corrosion
  • Understanding of heat-treating processes and their effects on machining
  • Apply advanced math skills to: Verify measurements, calculate dimensions, verify tolerances and geometric relationships
  • Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and laser inspection tools

CNC & Manual Machinist Education and/or Experience:
Required:
  • Demonstrated experience in manual machining (mills and lathes)
  • Demonstrated experience in CNC machining, including setup and operation
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • CNC programming experience (G/M code); CAM software experience a plus
  • Experience machining components for valves, pumps, or actuators

Preferred:
  • Welding ability is a plus
  • Willingness to work onsite at customer facilities as required
  • Less than 5% seasonal (Spring/Fall) travel required
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured under company insurance

CNC & Manual Machinist Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to grasp and manipulate small objects, tools, and precision instruments
  • Ability to work with hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to work at heights, including:
  • Climbing stairs (up to 20 flights per day)
  • Climbing ladders up to 20 feet
  • Ability to stoop, crawl, and crouch while working on equipment
  • Ability to stand and work on feet for 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work in loud industrial environments
  • Comfortable working around industrial equipment with exposed moving parts
  • Ability to drive on average 3-4 hours per day, with occasional days up to 8 hours
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments for extended periods

CNC & Manual Machinist Pay:
  • $30.00 - $45.00 per hour
  • Overtime eligible
