Position Summary:
The Production Detailer / CNC Programmer supports the Project Management team by converting customer requirements, field measurements, sketches, and conceptual designs into accurate shop drawings and CNC programs for production. This position serves as the link between project management and fabrication, ensuring jobs are detailed accurately, efficiently, and ready for manufacturing.
The primary objective of this position is to increase Project Manager capacity by taking ownership of shop detailing, CNC programming, nesting, and production package preparation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Detailing & Drawing Development
  • Create fabrication drawings from sketches, marked-up prints, field measurements, and customer-provided drawings.
  • Develop shop drawings for metal fabricated components.
  • Produce dimensioned fabrication details for shop personnel.
  • Verify dimensions, fit-up requirements, and fabrication feasibility.
  • Maintain drawing revisions and revision history.
  • Generate cut lists and material take-offs as required.

CNC Programming
  • Create programs for CNC laser, CNC punch, CNC Plasma, and other automated fabrication equipment.
  • Generate flat patterns and part layouts.
  • Develop efficient nesting layouts to maximize material utilization.
  • Create bend deductions and bend allowances as required.
  • Verify program accuracy before release to production.
  • Maintain organized electronic program files.

Production Package Preparation
  • Assemble complete job packages for production including:
      • Shop drawings
      • CNC programs
      • Cut lists
      • Material requirements
      • Special fabrication instructions
      • Quality requirements
  • Ensure production packages are complete before release to the shop.

Production Support
  • Support fabricators and foremen with drawing interpretation.
  • Resolve detailing issues identified during fabrication.
  • Make drawing revisions as field conditions or customer requirements change.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to maintain production schedules.
  • Participate in production planning meetings when required.

Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve nesting efficiency and material utilization.
  • Standardize drawing practices and production documentation.
  • Develop reusable templates and drawing libraries.
  • Assist with implementation of new software and production systems.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes and shop operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of steel, aluminum, and stainless steel fabrication methods.
  • Experience with CNC laser programming.
  • Experience with CNC punch programming.
  • Experience with nesting software.
  • Experience with structural steel and miscellaneous metals detailing.
  • Associate degree or technical training in drafting, CAD, manufacturing technology, or related field.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in office, field, and shop environments.
  • Ability to walk production floor regularly.
  • Ability to review fabricated parts and assemblies in the shop.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
