Job description

Scope of Role

The CNC programmer is responsible for reading and interpreting blueprints, writing new CNC programs in addition to troubleshooting and improving existing CNC programs. The programmer will also assist with setting up and operating machines to prove out CNC programs. Their focus will be on the improvement of programs that maximize quality of the final product in the most effective, efficient, and economic way possible.

This role reports directly to the Senior Manufacturing Engineer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create, proof, and troubleshoot CNC programs using G and M codes.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production to integrate CNC programming into manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor machine performance and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Participate in Kaizen continuous improvement activities to help with process optimization.
  • Backup and maintain CNC programs to ensure data integrity.
  • Participate in Tier meetings to complete daily corrective actions related to programming.
  • Conduct program simulations on equipment to prevent errors in machining.
  • Read and analyze blueprints to verify final products are made to specification.
  • Use gaging to measure final dimensions of product to verify accurate machining.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle proprietary and sensitive information with integrity.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with CAD/CAM preferred.
  • Ability to program Mazak, Okuma, and Fanuc controls preferred.
  • Ability to work with various outside machine suppliers to develop new programs, troubleshoot existing programs, and develop new processes for new machines.
  • Willing and able to occasionally travel domestically up to 10% to other RRX sites, vendor and/or customer visits, training events, trade shows, etc.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Education or training in CNC programming is required.
  • Experience with turning and milling is required.
  • 3 or more years of CNC programming experience in machining environment desired.
  • Previous experience working with products with tolerances less than 0.0005" is desired.
  • Experience with gear machining (hobbing, skiving, and grinding) is desired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Potential physical demands include but are not limited to: frequent sitting and occasional bending and stooping. Potential sensory demands include but are not limited to: hearing and seeing. Lifting and/or maneuvering of up to 30 pounds without assistance, or heavier loads with the assistance of a lifting device in order to set up test equipment. Must be able to work in a typical manufacturing facility and travel domestically outside facilities which could entail walking, climbing, and moving around working equipment.
