Key Responsibilities
- Develop, edit and optimize CNC programs (G-code) for lathes and mills using CAM software and manual programming as required.
- Set up and operate CNC lathes and mills, including selecting tooling, fixturing and workholding, and performing first-article setups.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and GD&T to ensure parts meet specifications.
- Perform machine setup, tool offsets, and work coordinate system (WCS) adjustments; verify and adjust programs through dry-runs and test cuts.
- Monitor machining processes and make real-time adjustments to maintain part quality and throughput.
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot machine and program issues, and escalate complex problems to engineering or maintenance.
- Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges; document inspection results and maintain accurate production records.
- Collaborate with engineers, quality, and production teams to improve machining processes, reduce cycle times, and minimize scrap.
- Train and mentor junior machinists and operators on safe machine operation, setup procedures, and best practices.
- Adhere to company safety policies, maintain a clean workstation, and promote continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on experience programming and operating CNC lathes and mills in a production environment.
- Proven experience with CNC programming (G-code) and CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, or equivalent).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with manual setups, tooling selection, and workholding for turning and milling operations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and GD&T.
- Proficient with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges) and basic inspection techniques.
- Familiarity with shop math, feeds and speeds calculations, and machining best practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to optimize programs for quality and efficiency.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate or associate degree in machining, manufacturing technology, or related field preferred.
- CMM experience is a plus and will be considered a strong advantage.
