Job description

At Vatn Systems, we specialize in designing and manufacturing advanced Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) that push the boundaries of underwater exploration and defense technology. Our AUVs integrate complex electro-mechanical systems, high-precision sensors, and cutting-edge software to operate in challenging marine environments. We're looking for a skilled CNC operator to join our growing production team and play a key role in transitioning products from R&D to full-scale production.

Role Description:

As a multi-axis CNC Operator at Vatn Systems you will support precision machining operations by running multi-axis CNC equipment and verifying part quality throughout the machining process. This role requires strong attention to detail, disciplined execution of established processes, and the ability to identify issues before they impact part quality. This position supports a rapidly scaling machining operation, where consistency and repeatability are critical to sustaining increasing production rates.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operate CNC equipment: 5-axis mills, Mill-turn, Lathe
  • Execute processes for production and R&D components
  • Load/unload parts and manage workholding setups
  • Execute established programs and follow setup documentation
  • Perform in-process inspection on critical features using manual metrology tools
  • Monitor process quality
  • Perform hand-finishing: Execute meticulous deburring, edge breaking, and final cleaning
  • of precision machined parts
  • Identify and escalate; out-of-tolerance conditions, process instability, drawing ambiguities
  • Maintain machine and shop readiness; manage coolant levels, chip management, basic
  • machine maintenance, and keep the general shop floor clean and organized
  • Support continuous improvement of shop processes through constructive feedback

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years CNC machining or operation experience
  • Experience working with tight toleranced hardware
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and basic GD&T
  • Strong familiarity with precision measurement tools
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and process discipline
  • Ability to follow established processes consistently
  • Willingness to tackle general shop support tasks, from deburring to floor maintenance
  • Willingness to stop production and escalate issues when needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with multi-axis machining (4-axis / 5-axis)
  • Familiarity with Fanuc CNC controls
  • Experience with production environments
  • Exposure to in-process probing and or inspection methods
  • Basic understanding of tool life management and tool wear pattern
