About the role
Reads blueprints, programs or adjusts G-code, and sets up CNC machines to cut and shape raw materials into precision parts. Responsible for monitoring production runs, measuring finished parts with precision tools, and performing routine machine maintenance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Complete all documentation pertaining to the work assignment
  • Work closely and clearly communicate with the other departments, Machine personnel, Supervisor, and Lead Man
  • Operating a machine consists of:
  • Able to lift large, heavy equipment using the crane or spreader bar setup when required
  • Operate manual and automatic feeds to 0.0002" as required for final cuts
  • Operate machine to make complex angle cuts and threading where multiple speeds and feeds
  • are required
  • Complete assigned jobs start to finish with little or no supervision.
  • This includes the ability to perform the following:
  • Perform intermediate trigonometry to help determine tooling required to machine the part and best matching method
  • Read blue prints, drawings and sketches that may require intermediate math and problems solving skills to calculate dimensions not specified on print
  • Help Maintain Equipment, this includes the following:
  • Check / Add oil
  • Clean machine after each shift
  • Place tooling in correct location and organize
  • Dispose of and properly document left over machining stock (New Parts, Met Samples)
  • Q.C. all manufactured parts prior to removing from machine and informing the Department Supervisor of the following items:
  • When/If item is de-burred
  • Once dimensions are verified per print
  • Alert Supervisor if there are any discrepancies
  • Steps required before part is complete
  • Remain physically active from start of shift to end of shift, including, but is not limited to:
  • Sweeping
  • Cleaning Area
  • Organize tooling
  • Operating Machine
  • Organize project parts
  • Operate CNC
  • Planning - work with Department Supervisor to develop a machining plan:
  • Determine what tools will be required
  • Determine pre-programmable steps
  • Determine manual programming steps
  • Determine the best loading position to accommodate the machining requirements
  • Locate / Load all required tools for the Project in the correct tool holder
  • Correctly program the tools and offsets for each tool in the holder CNC - Operation
  • Stay attentive while the CNC is running
  • Load proper material / parts
  • Be able to quickly shut down or change the program to prevent detrimental damage to the machine or personnel safety
  • Calculate / Anticipate tool offset changes due to wear during the machine process CNC - Maintenance
  • Maintain Oil Levels as required
  • Clean area as required
  • Be on the job site and in your assigned work area at the scheduled time
  • Keep work area clean and well organized during all phases of the project
  • Have and maintain ability to use and operate the overhead cranes, torches, grinders and
  • forklifts

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports, cooperates with, and participates in company-wide Safety Policy and Procedures
  • Adheres to company and department policies, procedures, and standards
  • Supports, cooperates with, and participates in company-wide LEAN and EHS Management System which includes following all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures
  • Work closely and clearly communicate with the other departments, Machine personnel, Supervisor and Lead Man
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a CNC machinist apprentice program or equivalent training
  • Ability to hold close tolerances and conduct component inspections
  • Ability to perform with a minimum of direct supervision
  • Willingness to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work overtime as required
