Job description

Do you like working with plants? If so, this may be the opportunity for you! 

Overall Job Purpose:

Working closely with the Team Leads and Supervisors, Temporary Cultivation Workers performs all tasks to support growing processes for cannabis plants, including, but not limited to; cloning, trimming, transplanting, and harvesting according to the master production schedule.

This is a hardworking, hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves environment emphasizing a team-oriented and collaborative style. It will be key for the candidate to embrace change and see past obstacles with a focus on solutions in the context of a company undergoing rapid growth and ongoing functional integration.

Responsibilities, including but not limited to: 

  • Supports team leadership in the overall plant care
  • Perform all the tasks in the growing process according to the master schedule 
  • Assisting in various cultivation tasks as assigned
    • Cloning
      • Cutting and sticking clones
      • Transplanting clone in accordance with production schedule
      • Label plants according to company standards and policies
      • Prune mother plants after cloning
    • Trimming and Pruning
      • Prunes plants in both vegetative and flowering stages to produce healthy, high-yielding plants in accords with the leaderships direction
    • Trellising
      • Apply netting to crop at specific growth stages
    • Repopulating Grow Rooms
      • Moving plants into grow rooms in a time efficient, careful manner
    • Harvest
      • Running and cleaning Twister machines and other tools and equipment
      • Conducting hand-trimming processes as required
      • Protect the overall quality of the product by recognizing defects and handling them appropriately
  • Completing daily/weekly/monthly cleaning and deep cleaning tasks as assigned
    • Deep cleaning indoor grow rooms between crops
  • Supporting Tissue Culture activities as required 
  • Manage and account for all inventory and supplies
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Manage and proactively solve any production issues that may occur
  • Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain compliance with CIGI and Health Canada regulations
  • Participate in the company Health & Safety Program and comply with all health and safety related policies and processes
  • Other duties as required

Job Details:
Rate of Pay: $18.00 per hour
Position Status: Full-Time, Hourly, 3-month Temporary Contract Position 
Schedule: Regularly 6:30am-3:00pm Monday-Friday (subject to change and occasional additional shiftwork as per operational requirements)

Psychological Demands: 

  • Must be able to complete duties with minimal supervision and comfortable working independently and safely in a group environment  
  • Must be willing/able to work in a social environment
  • Must be comfortable with completing highly repetitive tasks with focused attention
  • Fast-paced, production-focused role 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform physical tasks required for an 8-hour shift period, including but not limited to: pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50lbs), standing, walking, sitting for prolonged periods of time 
  • Ability to wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment including, but not limited to medical gloves, safety eyewear, face masks, half-mask respirator, etc. 
    • For half-masked respirator your face will need to be clean shaven
  • This position will involve exposure to fresh cannabis/plant materials and is therefore not likely suitable for anyone that may suffer from allergies to cannabis or plant pollen, or for anyone that experiences medical issues as a result of exposure to cannabis/plant materials

Environmental Demands:

  • Must be willing and able to work in environments with variable temperature (indoor and outdoor) and humidity, and variable lighting.
    • Harvest Area: loud machinery, cool environment regularly (approx. 17 Celsius),
    • Greenhouse: high heat and humidity (30+ degrees/55+ humidity), bright LED lighting
    • Indoor: high heat and humidity (25+ degrees/55+ humidity), bright LED lighting
    • Tissue Culture: clean laboratory
  • Must be able to work in an environment that uses cleaning products including, but not limited to, Simple Green, AM 717, Caustek Free, Powerquat, and Isopropyl Alcohol. 
  • Strong scent of fresh cannabis plants

The ideal candidate has:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience 
  • Horticulture/agriculture education or experience is preferred
  • A positive attitude and enjoys working in a team
  • Meticulous attention to detail in repetitive tasks
  • The ability to work in a results-oriented, time-sensitive environment 
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, to work effectively with all levels of employees and management
  • Access to reliable transportation to work full-time hours as scheduled (40 hours per week)
  • Must have the ability to provide a criminal record check that is clear of any charges that could be related or have a direct correlation to the position or company
  • All employees must be 19+
