Job Summary:

The CNC Machinist Level 2 operates, sets up, and programs computer numerical control (CNC) machines to perform precision machining tasks. This position requires the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, operate a variety of CNC machinery, and ensure high-quality production output. The CNC Machinist Level 2 also works closely with the production team to ensure timelines, quality standards, and safety procedures are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Machine Setup & Operation:
    • Set up and operate CNC machines, including milling, lathe, and other related equipment, to produce parts according to specifications.
    • Load and unload materials, tools, and machine parts as necessary.
    • Ensure all equipment is set up and adjusted properly to meet tolerance requirements.

2.      Programming & Editing:

  • Read and interpret technical blueprints, engineering drawings, and other documentation to understand the machining requirements.
  • Edit and troubleshoot CNC programs when necessary to ensure correct part output.
  • Use CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-code to create, modify, or optimize programs for machine operation.

3.      Quality Control:

  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers and gauges to ensure parts meet the required specifications.
  • Perform routine quality checks during machining processes and make adjustments as needed to ensure part quality.
  • Document inspection results and report any discrepancies or issues to supervisors.

4.      Maintenance & Safety:

  • Conduct routine maintenance of CNC machines, ensuring proper lubrication, calibration, and tool changes.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and collaborate with maintenance teams for repairs.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe work environment.

5.      Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work with engineers, designers, and production staff to ensure that parts meet design specifications and production schedules.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss job priorities, schedule changes, or process improvements.

6.      Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify areas for improvement in machining processes and suggest enhancements to increase efficiency, quality and safety.
  • Stay updated on new technologies, tools, and machining techniques to maintain high productivity and quality standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a CNC machinist program or apprenticeship is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience as a CNC machinist, with proficiency in operating CNC lathe machines and reading technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming and editing (G-code, M-code).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and standards in a machining environment.

 Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • CNC certification from a recognized institution.
  • Experience with advanced CNC machines (e.g., multi-turret CNC machines).
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software for CNC programming.
  • Experience in the aerospace, automotive, or manufacturing industries is a plus.

Work Environment:

  • The position is based in a manufacturing environment, where the CNC machinist will be expected to work on the shop floor.
  • Regularly required to stand, lift, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
