Job Title: CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role is ideal for an experienced CNC Machinist who enjoys both hands-on machining and team leadership. You will read and interpret complex blueprints, set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, or grinding machines, and perform basic troubleshooting independently. In addition to running your own machines, you will lead a team of five or more machinists, ensuring high-quality output that meets stringent standards in industries such as aerospace, nuclear, and medical devices.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret detailed blueprints accurately to perform daily machining tasks.
  • Set up CNC machines independently, including tooling, fixturing, and program selection.
  • Operate CNC mills, lathes, or CNC grinding machines based on experience and production needs.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on CNC equipment to resolve issues and maintain productivity.
  • Lead a team of 5+ machinists while operating your own machines, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions and ensure part quality.
  • Apply GD&T principles consistently to interpret and achieve required tolerances and specifications.
  • Work with G-codes and M-codes on turning centers and other CNC equipment to produce parts to specification.
  • Maintain high standards of quality for parts produced for aerospace, nuclear, and medical device applications.
  • Collaborate with the team to optimize machining processes and improve efficiency and throughput.
  • Follow all shop safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5+ years of CNC Machinist experience in a production environment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints with 5+ years of consistent blueprint reading experience.
  • Hands-on experience with either CNC milling or CNC lathe operations.
  • Consistent, practical experience applying GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Experience working in high-regulation industries such as aerospace, nuclear, or medical devices.
  • Knowledge of machining processes including turning and operation of turning centers.
  • Familiarity with G-codes and M-codes for CNC machine operation.
  • Ability to set up machines and perform basic troubleshooting independently.
  • Capability and willingness to lead a team of machinists while managing your own machine workload.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience on both CNC mills and lathes, which increases eligibility for multiple roles.
  • Machinist ticket or formal machinist certification is a strong asset.
  • CNC programming experience is a valuable nice-to-have.
  • Experience working with CNC grinding machines is beneficial.
  • Comfort working with tight tolerances and complex geometries common to aerospace, nuclear, and medical device parts.

Why Work Here?

You will join a modern, well-equipped machine shop that invests in new technology and maintains a clean, organized environment. The workplace offers a strong benefits package, access to brand new machines, and multiple shift options that can support different lifestyle and scheduling preferences. You will have the opportunity to work on challenging, high-precision projects in regulated industries, develop your technical and leadership skills, and contribute to a culture that values quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Work Environment

The role is based in a machine shop where approximately 70% of the equipment consists of brand new machines, providing a clean, modern, and efficient work setting. You will work with CNC mills, lathes, turning centers, and potentially CNC grinding machines, using precision measurement tools and operating within tight tolerances. Shift options include afternoon (Monday–Thursday, 4:00 p.m.–2:00 a.m.), night (Monday–Thursday, 8:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.), and weekend shifts (6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.), offering flexibility for different scheduling needs. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety standards typical of shops serving aerospace, nuclear, and medical device industries.
