Job Title: Lead CNC Machinist / ProgrammerJob Description

The Lead CNC Machinist / Programmer is an hourly role responsible for overseeing machining and manufacturing processes, including CNC programming, setup, and operation. This position supports day-to-day production activities, ensures parts meet blueprint specifications, and contributes to a positive and productive team environment. The role requires strong technical machining experience, effective communication, basic math skills, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC machines, including lathes and related equipment, to produce parts according to engineering blueprints and specifications.
• Program CNC machines using CAM software to create efficient and accurate machining programs.
• Review and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to plan machining operations and determine tooling, speeds, and feeds.
• Receive daily instructions from leadership and plan work activities accordingly to meet production goals and deadlines.
• Inspect parts to ensure they meet blueprint and specification requirements, using appropriate gauges and measuring tools.
• Monitor machining processes, troubleshoot mechanical and programming issues, and make adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
• Control the quality, duration, cost, and thoroughness of assigned work to align with production and business objectives.
• Follow all established safety policies and procedures and promote a safe working environment for yourself and team members.
• Arrive on time to work, meetings, appointments, and other work-related functions, demonstrating reliability and professionalism.
• Communicate effectively with team members and leadership, providing updates on progress, issues, and improvement opportunities.
• Support and help facilitate a positive, collaborative, and productive team environment on the shop floor.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated experience as a CNC machinist with hands-on knowledge of machining equipment and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to program CNC machines using CAM software for various parts and operations.
• Proficiency in operating and setting up CNC lathes and other machining equipment.
• Strong blueprint reading skills with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to resolve machining and equipment issues.
• Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and machining setups.
• Ability to use gauges and measuring tools to verify part dimensions and tolerances.
• Good communication skills to coordinate daily work, share information, and collaborate with team members.
• Ability to adapt to change and work effectively in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
• Commitment to following safety policies and procedures at all times.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in CNC programming and machine operation in a manufacturing environment.
• Background in mechanical or machining disciplines, whether through work experience or vocational training.
• Ability to plan and organize daily tasks based on production instructions and priorities.

• Interest in taking on leadership responsibilities and growing into roles with greater management or oversight.

Work Environment

This role is based in a large manufacturing facility with a workforce of over 300 people. The atmosphere includes both indoor and outdoor areas, with most work performed indoors in a production environment. You will work around CNC machines, lathes, and other manufacturing equipment, following safety procedures and shop-floor protocols. The setting is fast-paced and team-oriented, with structured hours that support consistent scheduling and a professional industrial dress code appropriate for a machining and manufacturing environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boise, ID.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
