As a CNC Apprentice, your daily responsibilities usually include assisting in machine setup, monitoring CNC machinery during runs, inspecting finished parts for quality, and performing basic maintenance tasks. You'll also learn to interpret technical drawings, measure components with precision instruments, and maintain a clean and organized workspace. Most apprentices work under the guidance of experienced machinists, supporting production while gradually taking on more complex tasks as their skills develop. This hands-on training is designed to prepare you for higher-level roles within the manufacturing environment.
To thrive as a CNC Apprentice, you need a basic understanding of machining principles, mechanical aptitude, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with CNC machines, reading technical blueprints, and basic computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software are typically important, and some employers may prefer candidates enrolled in or completing a manufacturing or machining certificate program. Strong attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and good teamwork and communication skills set successful apprentices apart. These skills and qualities are vital for producing accurate parts, working safely, and progressing efficiently within the CNC field.
A CNC Apprentice is an entry-level role where individuals learn how to operate and program Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines. Under the guidance of experienced machinists, apprentices gain hands-on experience in reading blueprints, setting up machines, and maintaining quality control. The Opportunity
Williams International has an exciting opportunity for two Machining Apprentices to join our team beginning July 2026.
Under supervision of the Manufacturing Team Leader/Mentor, the apprentice will complete a pre-apprenticeship program for a period of three months. The pre-apprentices program focuses on training in safety, basic blue-print reading, basic machining on conventional lathes and mills, measurements and parts verification.
After a successful pre-apprenticeship period, the apprentice will be registered with the Department of Labor under a CNC Machining apprenticeship program. The program will include on the job training as well as instructor led courses through our partner organization, Oakland Community College. The training will be focused on CNC lathes, CNC mills, and advanced machining.
The apprenticeship training period is for 2 years. After successful completion, the candidate will finish in an off-shift position as a permanent full-time employee.
