About the Role:
The CMT Tech plays a critical role in the construction industry by ensuring the quality and integrity of materials used in various construction projects. This position is responsible for conducting comprehensive testing and inspection of construction materials to verify compliance with industry standards and project specifications. The CMT Tech collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to provide timely and accurate data that supports decision-making and maintains project timelines. By identifying potential material issues early, the CMT Tech helps prevent costly delays and ensures the safety and durability of the constructed infrastructure. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the successful completion of construction projects by upholding rigorous quality control standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent with specialized training or certification in construction materials testing.
- Proven experience in construction materials testing or a related field within the construction industry.
- Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, and other relevant testing standards and procedures.
- Ability to operate standard construction testing equipment and perform manual and automated tests.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
- Certification as a Construction Materials Technician (CMT) or similar recognized credential.
- Experience with non-destructive testing methods and advanced laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge of construction project management software and data reporting tools.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities:
- Perform field and laboratory testing of construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates to assess their properties and suitability for use.
- Document and report test results accurately, maintaining detailed records to support project quality assurance and compliance requirements.
- Operate and maintain testing equipment in accordance with safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines to ensure reliable and consistent results.
- Collaborate with project teams to interpret test data and provide recommendations for material acceptance or rejection based on established standards.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports and communicate findings to engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies as needed.
