Vigor Marine CM San Diego, a Vigor Marine Group company, builds on the proud legacy of Continental Maritime of San Diego (CMSD) to stand as a vital force on San Diego’s working waterfront. As a certified Master Ship Repair Contractor for the U.S. Navy, our skilled professionals have successfully completed hundreds of ship repair and modernization projects for the Navy and Military Sealift Command.
 
We perform maintenance and modernization on all classes of major surface vessels, including CVN, CG, and DDG, as well as amphibious ships such as LHD, LHA, LSD, LPD, and auxiliary ships. Our work spans a full range of Combatant, Hull, Mechanical and Electrical, and Habitability systems, supporting the readiness and mission success of the U.S. Fleet.

Position Specifics

Vigor Marine CM San Diego is currently seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Inspector 3 to support our operations. The Quality Assurance Inspector (QAI) reports to the Quality Assurance Manager and is responsible for maintaining, implementing, and applying the Company’s quality systems. The position works from blueprints, diagrams, customer specifications, drawing or inspection instructions and checklists. The QAI is the principal point of contact relative to customer inspection personnel and ensures the Company and Subcontractors comply with specification requirements and document results via the appropriate system of record.

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong background in quality assurance and environmental/health/safety programs
  • Must be familiar with US Navy quality assurance requirements
  • Must have demonstrated experience in execution and engineering support of test related functions
  • Ability to plan and develop testing strategies based on extensive experience and judgement
  • Ability to read technical drawings and interpret the Navy Engineering Operational Sequencing System (EOSS)
  • Familiar with commonly used shipboard concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Exceptional understanding of the NAVSEA Standard Items and associated military and commercial regulatory requirements
  • Must be able to read and interpret work specifications, standards, and references
  • Must be available for unscheduled extended work hours and non-standard workweeks
  • Desire to learn new industry-related activities
  • Superb communication and time management skills
  • Computer skills in work processing, databases, and spreadsheets
  • Ability to get along with and foster good relationships among peers, supervisory, and customer personnel
  • May require support with technical documentation
  • US Citizenship is required
  • The ability to acquire a DBIDS credential is required
  • NBPI and/or NACE certification required
Physical Requirements
  • May be exposed to fumes, irritants, laser light, toxic chemicals, and potential electrical shock in an industrial or shipboard environment
  • May involve gathering data while observing rotating or operating machinery
  • Requires working in an industrial or shipboard environment
  • Frequently moves throughout the yard
  • Must be able to maneuver, ascend and descend stairs/ladders/ramps located inside various ships
  • Ability to move more than 40lbs.
  • May be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teams
