Familiarity with launch monitors, fitting software, and club customization tools is essential for providing precise recommendations. What is club fitting?

Club fitting is the process of customizing golf clubs to match a golfer's unique swing characteristics, body measurements, and playing style. Professional club fitters analyze factors such as shaft length, flex, grip size, lie angle, and clubhead design to optimize performance and comfort. Proper club fitting can help golfers achieve better accuracy, distance, and overall consistency on the course. Many golf retailers and specialty shops offer club fitting services using advanced technology and expert analysis.

What are the biggest challenges faced by club fitters when working with clients of varying skill levels?

Club fitters often work with golfers ranging from beginners to seasoned players, and each client presents unique challenges. For beginners, fitters must focus on education and help clients understand the importance of proper equipment, while ensuring the fitting process is not overwhelming. Advanced golfers may have specific preferences or technical needs, requiring a deeper understanding of equipment customization and performance analytics. Balancing these diverse needs and effectively communicating recommendations is key to building trust and ensuring client satisfaction.

What do you need to be a club fitter?

To be a club fitter, you typically need knowledge of golf equipment, a good understanding of swing mechanics, and experience with fitting tools such as launch monitors and lie boards. Certifications from organizations like the Titleist Performance Institute or the PGA can enhance credibility, and strong communication skills are important for working with clients.

Director of Golf Club Fitting & Sales

Urban Golf Performance (UGP)
Irvine, CA (In-Person | Travel Required)

About Urban Golf Performance

Urban Golf Performance (UGP) is building the highest-end, most integrated golf performance company in the world.

We combine coaching, fitness, recovery, and club fitting under one roof to train everyday golfers like Tour-level athletes. With multiple locations and aggressive expansion plans, we are scaling quickly and looking for leaders who want to help build something meaningful.

This is not a maintenance role — this is a build and scale role.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Director of Golf Club Fitting & Sales to build, lead, and scale our entire club fitting and club sales division.

This person will be responsible for:

  • Building a world-class fitting and sales system
  • Driving $750K–$1M+ in club revenue per location
  • Training and developing our team to confidently sell premium equipment
  • Creating structure, consistency, and accountability across all locations

You will play a major role in shaping how UGP sells, delivers, and scales one of the most important revenue streams in the business.

Core Responsibilities

1. Build & Scale the Club Fitting Business
  • Develop and implement a clear, repeatable fitting system across all locations
  • Drive club sales performance across all departments (coaching, fitting, etc.)
  • Establish best practices for:
    • Fitting flow and experience
    • Product recommendations
    • Pricing and packaging strategy
  • Ensure every location is positioned to hit $750K–$1M+ in club revenue annually
2. Sales System & Training
  • Build a club sales playbook that integrates into the UGP client journey
  • Train coaches and fitters on:
    • How to present equipment confidently
    • How to connect performance to product
    • How to close club sales naturally within sessions
  • Eventually expand into broader sales training across departments
3. Team Leadership & Hiring
  • Recruit, hire, and develop dedicated club fitters at each location
  • Oversee performance and accountability of all fitters
  • Elevate the sales capability of every coach on staff
  • Set clear expectations, KPIs, and performance standards
4. Demo Matrix & Equipment Management
  • Own and maintain demo matrices across all locations
  • Ensure setups are:
    • Simple
    • Organized
    • Easy for coaches to use
  • Continuously optimize equipment offerings based on performance and demand
5. Build Shop Collaboration
  • Work directly with the build shop to ensure:
    • Efficient turnaround times
    • High-quality builds
    • Clear communication between fitting and build teams
  • Provide feedback and direction on systems and processes
  • Maintain authority to improve or restructure operations if needed
6. Vendor & Manufacturer Relationships
  • Build and manage relationships with key OEMs (Titleist, TaylorMade, Callaway, Ping, etc.)
  • Ensure UGP is positioned as a premium partner within the industry
  • Align product availability with business needs
KPIs & Success Metrics

This role is highly performance-driven. Success will be measured by:

  • Club Revenue per Location: $750K–$1M+
  • Attach Rate: % of clients purchasing clubs after assessments
  • Revenue per Assessment
  • Fitting Close Rate
  • Gross Margin: 25–40%
  • Build Turnaround Time
  • System Adoption Across Locations
What We're Looking ForExperience
  • Proven experience in club fitting, golf equipment, or related industry
  • Strong background in sales and revenue generation
  • Experience building and scaling systems (not just maintaining them)
  • Experience managing and developing a team
Profile
  • Combination of:
    • Golf industry knowledge
    • High-level sales leadership
  • Systems thinker who can turn chaos into structure
  • Strong communicator who can train and influence others
  • Competitive, driven, and comfortable being held accountable to numbers
Non-Negotiables
  • Has built or significantly improved a system before
  • Has managed people and driven performance
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • In-person presence required (no fully remote candidates)
Compensation
  • Base Salary: $100,000 – $200,000
  • Performance-Based Incentives: TBD (tied to revenue, KPIs, and growth)
  • Long-term upside for the right candidate as the business scales
Work Environment
  • Primarily based out of our corporate office (Irvine)
  • Regular travel to:
    • UGP University (El Segundo)
    • Other UGP locations
    • Out-of-state locations annually
  • Hands-on, in-person leadership role
Why This Role Matters

This is one of the most important hires in the company.

Club fitting and equipment is a massive opportunity for UGP — but only if it's done at a world-class level with structure, consistency, and strong leadership.

If you're looking to:

  • Build something from the ground up
  • Have real ownership and impact
  • Be part of scaling a premium brand

This is that opportunity.
