Job description

About the role:
Due to increased demand, we're looking to hire a Cloud Infrastructure / Platform Engineer to join our team supporting our internal developer platform built on AWS. This is a hands-on role for someone with a few years of relevant experience who wants to grow in platform engineering, cloud operations, observability, and developer experience.

This role is a good fit for someone who wants to grow beyond day-to-day platform support and into a broader platform engineering career. You'll have exposure to both infrastructure and developer workflows, with a chance to make a real impact on cloud cost, platform reliability, and developer productivity.

You'll partner closely with Infrastructure, Security, IT, and Spire's software development teams to improve how our platform runs, how our developers ship software, and how efficiently we spend it on AWS.

What you'll do:

  • Lead analysis of AWS spend across both platform-owned infrastructure and developer team workloads
  • Identify cost optimization opportunities and help implement changes that reduce spend without sacrificing reliability or developer experience
  • Support migration of existing workloads onto our newest internal developer platform
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve platform issues raised by internal customers, primarily software developers and IT/Security engineers
  • Perform regular maintenance, upgrades, and improvements across platform services and tooling
  • Help build and maintain code libraries, templates, and integrations that make it easier for application teams to instrument and observe their systems
  • Work with platform observability and delivery tooling across:
    • AWS EKS
    • AWS networking (VPC, subnets, TGW, load balancers, routing) and security (Security Groups, NACLs)
    • GitHub and GitHub Actions
    • ArgoCD
    • JFrog Artifactory and X-Ray
    • Grafana Enterprise, Alloy, Mimir, Tempo
    • OpenSearch
    • Karpenter
    • Calico
    • Gatekeeper
    • OpenCost

What we're looking for:

  • 2-3+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, SRE, DevOps, or a similar role
  • Strong experience with AWS and Kubernetes, especially EKS
  • Familiarity with GitOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines
  • Comfortable troubleshooting distributed systems and production issues
  • Working knowledge of observability tooling and concepts such as metrics, logs, traces, and alerting
  • Ability to write code or libraries in one or more general-purpose languages to support developer workflows
  • Good communication skills and a customer-focused mindset
  • Comfortable collaborating frequently with a variety of infrastructure, IT, security and application teams

Nice to have:

  • Experience with cost optimization in AWS or Kubernetes environments
  • Experience with ArgoCD or similar GitOps tools
  • Experience with Grafana ecosystem tooling
  • Familiarity with policy and admission control tools like Gatekeeper
  • Experience with Kubernetes networking or traffic policy tools like Calico
  • Experience supporting internal developer platforms or platform product teams
  • Experience with Open-Telemetry or application instrumentation patterns
  • Certification as an AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Certified CloudOps Engineer is an asset

Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three business days per week in the office.

Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required for this role. If needed, Spire will arrange the necessary licenses-this is not something candidates need to have before applying. #LI-MK1
