Job description

Fortinet is seeking a Staff SRE Engineer to join the FortiClient team. This senior individual contributor role is responsible for designing, building, and operating the infrastructure platform that powers FortiClient Cloud and FortiClient EMS, spanning cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, physical servers, networking, and production operations.

You will drive the architecture, reliability, scalability, and security of our platform while enabling engineering teams through automation, observability, and modern platform engineering practices. This role includes participation in a production on-call rotation, with an emphasis on automation, continuous improvement, and reducing operational toil through engineering.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain the infrastructure platform supporting FortiClient Cloud and FortiClient EMS.
  • Architect and operate highly available Kubernetes-based production environments.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain physical server infrastructure, including rack deployment, server provisioning, hardware lifecycle management, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage hybrid infrastructure environments spanning cloud, bare metal, and container platforms.
  • Design and troubleshoot networking components including TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, HTTP, routing, VPN, firewalls, load balancing, ingress, and secure connectivity.
  • Build infrastructure automation using Infrastructure as Code and modern deployment practices.
  • Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines to enable safe and efficient software delivery.
  • Own platform observability, including monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and operational dashboards.
  • Improve platform reliability through performance optimization, capacity planning, disaster recovery, and resiliency improvements.
  • Collaborate with software engineering teams to improve service architecture, deployment workflows, and production readiness.
  • Lead technical initiatives, architecture reviews, and adoption of modern infrastructure technologies.

Skills Required

  • Strong experience designing, building, and operating production infrastructure platforms.
  • Deep experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with physical server infrastructure, rack deployment, server provisioning, and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, HTTP, routing, VPN technologies, firewalls, VLANs, and load balancing.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar technologies.
  • Strong programming and automation skills using Python, Golang, Bash, or similar languages.
  • Experience designing and operating distributed systems and microservices architectures.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
  • Experience with observability platforms and practices including metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting.
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Advanced Networking, CKA, CKAD, Security+, or CCSP.
  • Experience operating private cloud, hybrid cloud, or large-scale on-premise infrastructure.
  • Experience with enterprise server hardware platforms such as Dell, HPE, Supermicro, or similar.
  • Experience with bare-metal provisioning tools such as PXE, MAAS, Foreman, Cobbler, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, KVM, or OpenStack.
  • Experience with NGINX, Helm, GitOps, Argo CD, or Flux.
  • Experience operating large-scale, multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
  • Experience with Redis, Kafka, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and SRE practices.
  • Knowledge of endpoint security, Zero Trust architectures, and enterprise networking.
  • Experience with Fortinet products, networking technologies, or cybersecurity solutions.

What You'll Own

  • Cloud, Kubernetes, and physical infrastructure architecture.
  • Production reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
  • Networking, connectivity, and secure service communication.
  • CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure automation.
  • Technical standards and best practices for platform engineering.

Why This Role

This is a Staff-level individual contributor role offering broad technical ownership of the platform behind FortiClient Cloud. You will work across cloud infrastructure, physical systems, networking, security, and distributed systems to solve challenging engineering problems at scale.

The Canada base salary range for this full-time position is expected to be between $130,000 - $160,000 annually.  Wage ranges are based on various factors including the labour market, job type, and job level.  Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate's subject knowledge, skill level, qualifications, and experience.
