Job description

GES is seeking a highly skilled Cloud Engineer III to support the Defense Enclave Services (DES) Operations & Maintenance (O&M) program. This role is part of a large-scale digital modernization effort supporting the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and Department of Defense (DoD) Fourth Estate customers. The selected candidate will design, implement, automate, and sustain enterprise cloud solutions across AWS and Azure environments in support of mission-critical infrastructure and applications.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in cloud engineering, infrastructure automation, security, and operational support within complex enterprise environments. This is a Tier 3 engineering role requiring advanced troubleshooting, architectural input, and technical leadership across cloud operations initiatives.
Clearance Requirement: Active DoD Secret clearance or higher is required to be considered.US Citizenship is required.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain secure cloud-based infrastructure solutions across AWS and Azure environments
  • Deploy and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using automation and orchestration tools
  • Support enterprise cloud modernization initiatives, including migration of on-premises services and workloads to cloud environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex Tier 3 cloud infrastructure, networking, identity, and application issues
  • Collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, operations, and architecture teams to ensure cloud solutions align with enterprise standards and mission requirements
  • Contribute to cloud architecture design efforts supporting scalable, resilient, and highly available environments
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows
  • Enforce cloud security best practices and compliance requirements, including alignment with DoD and Federal cybersecurity frameworks
  • Monitor cloud environments for performance, availability, optimization, and cost efficiency improvements
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and engineering standards
  • Support continuous service improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and user experience across the DES environment
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and operations personnel as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 10+ years of experience; additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise cloud solutions in AWS and/or Azure environments
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, ARM/Bicep, or CloudFormation
  • Experience implementing automation solutions using tools such as Ansible, PowerShell, Azure Functions, or similar technologies
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines andDevSecOpsmethodologies
  • Understanding of Identity and Access Management (IAM/ICAM) technologies including Azure AD, Okta, CyberArk, or similar platforms
  • Strong understanding of networking, virtualization, storage, and cloud security principles
  • Familiarity with Federal Government cybersecurity and compliance frameworks including NIST, FedRAMP, and FISMA
  • Experience supporting production enterprise environments in an operations and maintenance capacity
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in distributed technical teams
  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP, or equivalent)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Industry cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator Associate, or equivalent
  • Experience supporting DISA or DoD enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite, including Jira and Confluence
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise migrations or hybrid cloud environments
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes or OpenShift
