Job description


WSP is currently initiating a search for a POWER Testing and Energization (PTE) Early Career Field Services Technician for our project location in the states of Washington. Successful applicants will be involved in projects with our PTE Team and be a part of a growing organization that solving problems and supporting client needs in electrical testing and commissioning in utility substations, industrial and bulk electrical power systems.
This Opportunity
Provides entry-level support for construction, maintenance, environmental sampling, and technical field operations. Performs routine tasks to assist field staff in carrying out service activities across various work sites. Working under close supervision, the successful candidate will develop core proficiencies in equipment handling, safety practices, data collection, and documentation standards, as well as build foundational technical skills. This role contributes to environmental stewardship, quality assurance, and operational readiness by following established procedures and supporting experienced technicians in delivering field services.

Your Impact
  • Under the guidance of an experienced Field Services Engineer or Technician, the successful candidate will observe and assist with basic inspection and testing activities, as well as observe and assist with troubleshooting activities, Work may be performed in low, medium, or high voltage systems.
  • The candidate will assist with routine field tasks such as using testing instruments, supporting protection and controls testing, and gaining experience in the fundamentals of electrical system components and overall structure.
  • Observe and learn site safety practices including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Recognize and report unsafe conditions, malfunctioning equipment, or unclear instructions to supervisors.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and communication regarding assignments.
  • Work cooperatively with crew members and maintain professional behavior in the field.
  • Develop basic understanding of how to navigate fieldwork safely and responsibly.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Some experience in electrical testing or related job capacity.
  • Some experience or demonstrated interest in field service work, in medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
  • Completion of electrical circuits analysis series, or other courses with AC power system theory.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Willingness to participate in required safety and operational training sessions.
  • The ideal candidate demonstrates a willingness to learn, good communication skills, and developing problem solving abilities.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of environmental and weather conditions for extended durations.
  • Effective self-leadership with the ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.
  • Ability to work independently under supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining accuracy.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Willingness and physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds individually, and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, basic color differentiation, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Must be willing to travel (up to 80%)
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology
    Completion of junior-level courses in power system analysis and/or power system protection is preferred
  • Enrollment in or completion of a vocational, trade, or technical training program.
  • Prior electrical or construction internship experience
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and various industry standards, such as OSHA and NFPA is a plus

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $30.00-$55.00 per hour
