Lab Assistant

We are looking for a dependable and dedicated Certified Medical Lab Assistant to join our team at the emergency hospital. The Lab Assistant will work under general supervision, assisting in accessing and preparing specimens in the clinical laboratory. This role requires interaction with laboratory staff and other departmental personnel, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of service excellence and patient satisfaction.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Accurately receive, handle, and label all specimens according to hospital protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure timely receipt of samples, whether labeled with barcodes or not, upon their arrival in the lab.
  • Verify that patient names on specimens, labels, and accompanying paperwork match before processing.
  • Process STAT and Emergency Department (ED) samples within the designated turnaround time.
  • Immediately notify the supervisor of any discrepancies found during specimen verification.
  • Maintain an error rate of less than 1% in handling specimens.
  • Promptly deliver specimens to the appropriate lab work areas for testing.
  • Alert laboratory technicians to any STAT/ED samples that require immediate testing.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area.
  • Restock supplies and manage incoming stock as it arrives in the laboratory.
  • Keep cabinets, shelves, and counters organized and in orderly condition.
  • Notify the supervisor of supply ordering needs, including items with short expiration dates.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Medical Lab Assistant in a hospital setting.
  • Certification in Medical Assistance.
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling specimens and maintaining records.
