Job description

Position Purpose

The Senior Data Analyst will join a collaborative, centralized team grounded in improvement science to participate in projects that promote a culture of excellence.

The Senior Data Analyst will lead data analysis and insights generation within one or more business domains (e.g., Acute Care, Health Plan, Ambulatory, Medical Group) of Renown. This role is responsible for leading data-driven initiatives, providing actionable insights, and supporting strategic decision-making to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency.

The candidate will be responsible for acquisition, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of sensitive data to support performance measurement and health system improvement efforts. The candidate must be able to work independently, and collaboratively, to locate and validate data, identify data requirements, and communicate data specifications to team members and leaders. They must be able draw meaningful conclusions and make recommendations based on reporting/analytic solutions.

The Senior Data Analyst will leverage software applications to design solutions and perform detailed data mapping and analysis. They will not only manage data and design new processes but will be accountable for the timely and accurate production of routine internal and external monitoring reports and special projects. This requires experience working with databases, along with creativity, curiosity, and initiative to evolve the tools and reporting systems to meet the priorities of a dynamic healthcare environment. They will need an understanding of data management, as well as manipulation and interpretation of large databases.

Nature and Scope

This role can be either remote or hybrid.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Domain Leadership: Lead data analysis and insights generation within one or more assigned domains, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

• Responsible for acquiring, accessing, validating, querying, and analyzing data from data repositories using available tools (including Python, R, SQL, Power BI, Databricks, or Microsoft Azure applications).

• Consultative Inquiry: Work with EDA leaders and stakeholders to define business problems, identify data needs, and develop solutions that facilitate data-driven business decisions.

• Data Product Ownership: Provide the strategic direction and execution of data products within the assigned domain(s), including understanding business needs, prioritizing features, and ensuring the successful delivery of data solutions by managing the product backlog, defining the product vision, and working closely with the team to deliver data-driven solutions that meet business objectives.

• Data Analysis and Interpretation:

o Utilize statistical techniques and data mining methodologies to analyze complex clinical datasets. Identify trends, patterns, and correlations within the data to derive meaningful insights and actionable recommendations.

o Write scripts to integrate data, conduct exploratory data analysis to discover hidden trends, and use the right combination of tools and frameworks to turn complex sets of disparate data points into objective answers that inform decisions.

• Data Visualization and Reporting:

o Create clear and concise visualizations, reports, and dashboards to communicate data-driven insights to investigators.

o Present findings in a compelling manner, tailored to the target audience. Generate publication quality graphs and write associated narratives to describe methodology and results in detail for inclusion in scientific publications.

o Clearly and effectively communicate results in writing and in oral presentations.

• Quality Assurance: Ensure the accuracy and reliability of clinical and operational data by conducting quality assurance checks and implementing data validation procedures. Identify and resolve data discrepancies or anomalies.

• Governance: Act as a data steward and implement best practices for data usage and documentation.

• Compliance and Data Privacy: Adhere to regulatory requirements and maintain strict confidentiality of patient health information (PHI) in accordance with privacy laws and ethical guidelines such as HIPAA.

• Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements in data analytics methodologies, and emerging technologies. Explore opportunities to enhance data collection, analysis, and reporting processes. Participate in enterprise continuous improvement efforts to address business needs and challenges.

Incumbent Must Possess:

• A minimum of 8 years of experience.

• Must have strong analytical skills with the ability to work with a variety of large and complex datasets including (but not limited to) basic research datasets and clinical data.

EXPERIENCE WITH CLINICAL AND OPERATIONAL HEALTHCARE DATA PREFERRED.

• Must have experience with data visualization tools (i.e., Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik) and techniques to develop and deliver impactful data models and data visualizations.

• Must have experience with querying or analyzing data to answer questions and solve problems and familiarity with different databases.

• Must exhibit proficiency in data analysis and statistical software including R, Python, SAS, SPSS, SQL, Power BI DAX, and other relevant programming environments.

• Must have experience with statistics and statistical analysis of data

• Must have experience with electronic medical records.

• Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey complex findings to non-technical stakeholders.

• Must possess strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Additionally, the following experience is highly desirable:

• Experience with Python for advanced analytics and automation

• Familiarity with Databricks, Spark, or distributed data processing frameworks

• Exposure to Generative AI technologies and applications (e.g., LLMs, AI-assisted analytics)
