Responsibilities

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct, 1:1 and group-based ABA therapy services in homes, schools, communities, and clinic under the supervision of a BCBA. This role is responsible for implementing individualized treatment plans with fidelity, collecting accurate behavioral data, supporting skill acquisition and behavior reduction programs, and contributing to caregiver training. The RBT plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality, ethical, and data-driven service delivery in alignment with organizational standards.

Clinical Service Delivery

  • Deliver direct ABA services in 1:1 and group settings across clinic, home, school, and community environments under BCBA supervision.
  • Implement skill acquisition and behavior reduction programs with treatment fidelity as prescribed by the supervising BCBA.
  • Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies, including discrete trial teaching (DTT), natural environment teaching (NET), and other approved methodologies.
  • Support skill generalization and maintenance across settings and caregivers.

Data Collection and Documentation

  • Accurately collect and record behavioral data, session notes, and treatment documentation in accordance with BCBA direction and organizational standards.
  • Ensure timely completion of session documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Maintain integrity and accuracy of data to support clinical decision-making and outcomes monitoring.

Caregiver and Team Collaboration

  • Support caregiver training and coaching under the direction of the supervising BCBA.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team, including caregivers and other professionals, to support consistent implementation of treatment plans.
  • Communicate professionally and appropriately with team members regarding client progress and session observations.

Ethical Practice and Compliance

  • Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations and all organizational policies.
  • Follow all safety protocols, behavior support procedures, and ethical guidelines for ABA service delivery.
  • Maintain active RBT certification or actively work toward certification requirements.
  • Participate in supervision, competency assessments, and ongoing performance feedback from BCBA supervisors.

Preparation and Environment

  • Prepare materials and session environments prior to service delivery to ensure readiness for therapy.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized therapeutic environment in all service settings.
  • Utilize appropriate clinical procedures, prompting hierarchies, and safety protocols as directed.

  • Participate in required training, continuing education, and competency development activities.
  • Accept and respond to supervision, coaching, and performance feedback in a growth-oriented manner.
  • Represent the organization professionally in all interactions with clients, families, and team members.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to implement ABA treatment plans with fidelity under BCBA supervision, using evidence-based instructional methods.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to collect accurate behavioral data and complete timely, compliant documentation.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with supervisors, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professional conduct, and adherence to HIPAA quality standards
  • Ability to remain flexible in dynamic clinical environments and respond appropriately to client needs and session challenges.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning, supervision participation, and skill development within the RBT role.
