Job Description

Position Title: Clinic Aide Division: Family & Student Support/School Reports To: Principal FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary Schedule: HC3 Work Days: 185 Days/7 Hours Essential Duties:

  1. Notify designated Cluster or Lead Nurse and administrator of student health issues reported by parent/guardian.
  2. Work with individual students or groups of students while performing duties and responsibilities in accordance with applicable school clinic guidelines.
  3. Cooperate with school and system staff in determining appropriate care, including emergency situations, and maintain accurate documentation of clinic services including medication administration.
  4. Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior, maintaining appropriate confidentiality at all times.
  5. Perform appropriate health care procedures from orders written by a licensed physician and according to policies, procedures, and protocols of Henry County Schools. Notify Cluster Nurse of all orders received from licensed healthcare provider.
  6. Maintain documentation of all services rendered to students.
  7. Contact parents regarding student health concerns noted/observed at school. As needed, communicate about student health needs. Contact Cluster Nurse/Lead Nurse and/or administrator if more information is needed from student's healthcare provider in order to care for student at school.
  8. Receive medications and medical supplies for students; receive, document and store these safely per protocol. Administer treatments and medication. Document medication administration to students according to approved clinic policies, procedures, protocols, and physician directions.
  9. Attend mandatory Clinic Aide training sessions as a new hire, in pre-planning, and attend other training updates, staff development activities, and required meetings.
  10. Collaborate with School Nurse to evaluate student responses to prescribed interventions and the efficacy of the interventions. Develop nursing interventions for students with health conditions in an Individual Health Care Plan (IHCP) or Section 504 Plan.
  11. Collaborate with Cluster/Lead Nurse and school administrator to identify and manage individuals with suspected infectious illnesses; help prevent transmission to others.
  12. Follow HCS professional dress code. "Scrubs" and athletic shoes are appropriate clinic attire, but not mandatory. Professional attire is acceptable within general dress code guidelines. Fingernails to be kept at reasonable length.
  13. Provide privacy, a caring environment, and display and model respect towards students and others. Communicate clear behavior expectations in the clinic to students and staff.
  14. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by appropriate administrator.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of a High School Diploma or state-approved High School Equivalency (HSE), required.
  2. Certification: CNA, MA, or graduate nurse or nurse without a current Georgia license, preferred.
  3. CPR and first-aid training, preferred.
  4. General computer proficiency, required.
  5. Recordkeeping, organizational, and interpersonal skills, required.
  6. Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all educators, students, staff, families, and other stakeholders.
  7. Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
  8. Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  9. Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  10. Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  11. Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  12. Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  13. Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
  14. Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
