Job description

The Climate Finance Portfolio Manager (VP) is responsible for the ongoing management of an assigned portfolio of commercial solar, battery storage, energy efficiency, and other climate-related project finance credit, in collaboration with the Climate Lending Team. This role focuses on credit execution, monitoring and analysis to ensure portfolio performance, policy compliance and timely risk identification.

Portfolio management responsibilities include reviewing project performance and status reports, analyzing financial statements, monitoring covenant compliance, coordinating receipt of borrower reporting, supporting loan modifications and renewals, and preparing credit recommendations in accordance with Bank policy. The role works closely with relationship managers, underwriters, borrowers, internal partners and external parties (including counsel, servicers, and third-party consultants) to ensure effective loan administration.

The position requires strong analytical skills, sound credit judgement, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Portfolio Management
    1. Provide ongoing daily management of assigned climate loan relationships within bank policy and customer service standards.
    2. Request, analyze, and assess borrower financial reporting and project performance information on a timely basis.
    3. Underwrite and recommend loan modifications, renewals, waivers, and amendments.
    4. Review financial models, collateral reporting, third-party reports, and appraisals; escalate issues as appropriate.
    5. Prepare credit memoranda, risk rating recommendations, and approval packages in compliance with Bank guidelines.
    6. Coordinate with legal counsel on documentation for borrower execution.
    7. Work with third-party vendors (e.g., independent engineers, O&M contractors, consultants) as required.
    8. Communicate clearly with internal partners and borrowers regarding portfolio issues and requirements.
    9. Monitor covenant compliance and document exceptions.
    10. Maintain accurate and complete credit files and portfolio documentation.
    11. Prepare reporting for internal portfolio reviews and loan quality meetings.
    12. Respond to information requests from internal stakeholders and auditors.
    13. Identify emerging risks within assigned portfolio and escalate concerns to management.
    14. Provide secondary approval for advances after determining that all conditions to advances have been met.
  1. Collaboration and Professional Contribution
    1. Support team members through collaboration and knowledge sharing.
    2. Provide input on process improvements and workflow enhancements.
    3. Maintain proactive communication with relationship managers and internal partners.
    4. Demonstrate accountability for individual deliverables and deadlines.
    5. Recommend ways to improve the organization.
    6. Proactively manage loan relationships by setting appropriate client expectations and meeting deadlines.
    7. Proactively keep management, commercial bankers and other team members informed on the progress with client requests and other deliverables.
  1. Develop familiarity with software applications such as Salesforce, Moody’s Credit Lens, SLACK, etc..
  2. Perform other duties as directed, including but not limited to underwriting new loan originations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field, or equivalent commercial credit experience.
  2. 3-7 years of relevant experience in commercial banking, project finance, structured finance, or climate/renewable energy lending.
  3. Demonstrated ability to analyze financial statements, cash flows, and financial models to assess borrower and project performance.
  4. Working knowledge of commercial loan structures, collateral, covenants and credit risk principles.
  5. Experience preparing credit memoranda risk rating recommendations and loan approval packages.
  6. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other productivity tolls; ability to learn and use internal bank systems effectively.
  8. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present clear, organized credit analysis.
  9. Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, and collaborative work style.
  10. Ability to exercise sound judgment within established policies and escalate issues appropriately.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this role is between $125,000.00 – $140,000.00. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferrable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Hybrid Work Model
