Job description

Amazon is seeking a high-judgment and self-motivated communications professional to join our Worldwide Sustainability Communications team. This person will play an important role identifying and rapidly responding to emerging topics that have an impact on Amazon's work in becoming a more sustainable company and reaching its Climate Pledge commitment of net-zero carbon by 2040. Specifically, the role will focus on responding to Amazon's energy strategy, including its carbon-free energy progress and ongoing approach to energy and water efficiency amid a period of rapidly increasing AI demand. In addition, this role would support Amazon's broad approach to decarbonizing its operations, including its carbon neutralization work-which includes reducing tropical forest loss, restoring degraded land, and advancing technological carbon removal. This position is for someone who can excel in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, and thrives in the unpredictable. The role is dynamic with an ever-changing portfolio, and requires a team player who is willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done.
The successful candidate will help manage day-to-day reactive media inquiries while also developing forward-looking scenario plans in preparation for potentially negative news cycles. This individual must be able to think quickly and communicate clearly to address complicated scenarios. This position requires excellent media relations skills, talent for collaboration, and exceptional writing skills including the ability to manage feedback and edits quickly and concisely. This individual also should be comfortable using AI in their daily work to be more efficient and to better force multiply their impact.
The right candidate works effectively in a matrixed global organization, quickly builds effective working relationships, and has an ability to maintain high standards under tight deadlines.
Key job responsibilities
• Understand the Sustainability business with a finger on the pulse of category/industry trends and the evolving media landscape
• Communicate complicated sustainability, energy, decarbonization, water, and operational issues with a clear point of view, and create a concise and well-written narrative to express it
• Support the execution of reactive media engagement programs to help advance the company's Sustainability initiatives including high-visibility milestone events, press facility tours and filming opportunities, and other reactive media relations activities
• Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets/reporters to discuss and manage negative stories, correct inaccuracies, and establish a connection point for future story development
• Pay unrelenting attention to details
• Effectively represent Amazon as a spokesperson
• Work collaboratively across teams

• Provide strategic counsel to business and communications leaders about areas of reputational opportunity and risk
About the team
The Worldwide Sustainability Communications team oversees storytelling and reputation management for Amazon's sustainability and community impact initiatives. This global team is part of Amazon's Communications & Corporate Responsibility organization.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience
- Bachelor's degree
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in stakeholder and communication management
- Experience communicating results to senior leadership, or experience working in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment
- Experience working closely with and advising senior executives of an organization or equivalent
- Experience working with journalists who write about climate, energy, carbon, and water topics
- Prior experience with steep learning curves, and the ability to effectively communicate complex information to a wide variety of audiences
- Experience using AI in daily communications work

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
